A friend of mine and I were chatting about guns and women this
afternoon, and he asked me a question I couldn't answer right off...

What gun would be the Britney Spears of the gun world?
(IOW, cute and sexy but annoying and stupid)

Any takers?

It's cheap, it's near-useless (.25 auto? Come on...),
and... ummmm... it's... it's...

PINK!!!

A badly made cap gun. Cheap, doesn't work, and you're sorry you saw
and touched it.

Ah, yes, the deep, philosophical questions that draw me to rec.guns!

To answer your queston, I'm torn between the S&W 360 Airlight (revolver with
a silly atom logo on the side and way too little weight for the kick of
..357) and the Beretta 3032 Tomcat (tiny, easily concealable gun that has an
annoying tilt-up barrel). Both are cute and annoying.

If this isn't trolling I don't know what is! But I'll have a shot at
it.

It would have to be something insubstantial, not usable for protection
or marksmanship or even plinking. It would have to be carried by
someone for the wrong reason: Cause it looks cool to have it. I'm going
to vote for an "airsoft" type of gun.

I'm not interested in them myself, and under the right conditions I'm
sure they make a fine toy. But, under the wrong conditions the "cute
and sexy" ones would, I'm sure, be "annoying and stupid."

Lugers. incredibly well-made, look cool, feel good in the
hand, but too muzzle-light to do really good shooting with,
and horribly finicky and unreliable.

Easy one. Gyrojet. Looks good, yet can't sing 'a lick'.
High maintenance. Yup. . . . just like Britney!

Got to be the one I use on my lathe and mill to remove chips, the BLOW gun.
Always easy to use, can be done with one hand, has to be hooked on something
to work, hangs around to be used, not good for anything else, costs more
than it should, anybody can use it, only one useful orifice, looks useful
doing nothing, often makes a screeching sound when used, and can be replaced
by a better model anytime.

One more gun is just enough, maybe.

1. Any centerfire rifle with less than 20" barrel.
1. Any magnum handgun with less than 4" barrel.
1. Any optical sight which needs batteries to be useable.
1. A muzzle break on a .22 rimfire.
1. A key lock on any firearm.
1. Anything chambered for the .410 shotgun shell.

On a bad day, you will see a gun which incorporates 2 or more of the above
features.
It will be nickle-plated.
The guy next to you on the range will be trying to teach Britney Spears to
shoot with it.
Just thinking about this makes me tired.

Have to disagree with you here. Both Airsoft and paintball markers (the
good ones, not hee cheap-ass $30 ones that break after 3 shots) can be
valuable training aids. County just south of here bought a bunch a few
years ago to use for training for courthouse security. Set up airsoft
"live fire" exercises in the court rooms - some guys from the local gun
shop got to go in and play the "bad guys". Trigger pull can be kind
of sucky, but teh weight and sights are the same.
LOTS of DoD security detatchments have bought them, as well as Real
Action Markers (.40 cal paint ball markers), to use for training. The
Real Action Markers have the weight and feel of real M-16, M-4, MP-5,
etc - they even take real AR replacement parts and accessories.

The worst case of "I think I'll teach the lil' lady to shoot" I have
come across is the nimrod who (claimed) his brother had mounted the
scope on his M-77 in .308 (not a bad round to start someone with,
really). Seems his brother didn't sight it in. So nimrod and his GF
(who had never shot before) were having to hold offsomething like 9
inches right and 8 inches low to get it in the black at 100 yards. And
from standing, no rest. I forget how it came about, but he offered me a
shot with it and told me about the hold off. I took it back to my lane
(I was using a 26 X 40 parent sheet of 80# cover stock with a 5 1/2"
shoot n' see target dot so I had LOTS of room to see where they hit),
fired one, adjusted the scope to point of impact, fired one more to
check it, and made another few clicks of adjustment. Then I sat his GF
down at my lane, and from a rest she put a 5 shot cloverleaf at about
4:30 just outside of the 10 ring. She asked "Am I supposed to do that?
They weren't all in the center?" Nimrod looked embarassed, she looked
pleased when told that, yes, that was what was supposed to happen.
"Gee! This is so EASY!"

Well what about most sub guns with folding stocks have barrels less than
20", as do many so called assault weapons, like the car-15?
Please do try getting in and out of a car with your full size bolt
action rife, or clearing a room for that matter.

I thought annoying and stupid were stipulated?

Let me throw in not especially attractive and untalented.

She's sort of the Beretta 92 of "entertainers".

Sorry, you're right, I forgot all about folding stocks. Add the following to
the top of my list:
1. All guns with folding stocks, specifically the car-15

As to the rest, you must live in a REAL bad neighborhood.
