Someone has asked me to research where he can buy a .410 double barrel
pistol. He's seen the small American Derringer and Davis Derringer
.410s, both side-by-side and over-under derringers. He's really
looking for a longer barrel "pistol" (not a sawed off .410 with a
pistol stock added). He said he had seen such a pistol at a gun show
in the past, didn't buy it, and now can't find another. Does anyone
know of a Web site / catalog where he might find such a pistol - I'm
thinking about a 10 or 12 inch barrel?? I know in searching the
rec.gun archives (using Google Groups) there have been mentions of
.410 pistols seen at gun shows, but no links to any Web sites.

Thanks
Robert

Good luck. The only ones I'm familiar with that you haven't already
mentioned are the Ithaca Auto and Burglar (VERY rare in .410) and the H&R
Handy gun (single shot)...and BOTH are NFA weapons requiring special permits
(and are totally illegal in some states anyway). I think the only "longer
barrelled" .410 pistol he'll find is a single-shot Thompson Contender 45
Colt/410 Ga or some other similar piece.

About 3-4 months ago I surfed into the website, but I didn't bookmark it. They
were selling a combination product...the ,410 I think was a revolver and a
bedside gun safe was also sold as part of the package. Hope your hunt is
successful.

Shotgun News, check for the "Double D" kit. .45 Long Colt/.410 shotgun
caliber side by side double barreled derringer/pistol. You make sideplates
yourself, IIRC. It is supposed to be legal. The same company sold derringers
and "make it yourself" .22 revolvers, and Cobray style M-11/MAC-11 stuff. I
don't think I'd trust any of that gear, personally, but....

Shotgun News has a number of outfits that offer such items, they're
rifled and ostensibly chambered for .45 Colt. They're made of cheap
sheetmetal and not really worth bothering with. If your buddy wants a
real shotpistol, it's an NFA item and originals go for a lot of bucks.

To the best of my knowledge, Davis has never made a 410 pistol or
derringer.
Cobray has (or RPB or whatever the hell they call themselves now)
they are cheap and there are people selling the "make your own kits"
all over the place.

If you want a real pistol in that caliber that's not an NFA weapon,
there's the Thunder 5; a 5 shot 410 revolver with a 2 inch bbl.
the Thompson Contender with a bbl ranging from 10" to 16".
Also Magnum Research makes the BFR in this caliber...10"bbl, i
believe...check their website for more info.

Hope this helps!

www.gunsnstuff.net has a "Double Barrel Shotgun Pistol" that fires .45
Colt and .410 shells. Its overall length is 14", and it costs $120.
You have to download their catalog to find the information on it (it's
on page 12), and it has to be shipped to an FFL (so expect a $30+
markup).

Hope that helps.

Check out KY Imports (www.kyimports.com); their adds in Shootgun News
usually show a .45 Colt/.410 long-barreled double derringer which from
the styling of it appears to be made by FMJ Manufacturing (Leinad
Inc.), though I didn't see it on their web site. I own one of the
single-barrel FMJ .451 black powder versions of their derringer. It's
not pretty and it consistantly requires two hammer strikes to set off
the cap, but for under $40 it's been an interesting toy and a
novelty/conversation piece at the range. I don't know of the quality
of the center-fire versions of the gun, but I would consider it only
for fun and not for protection.

Just came from a gun show today. A dealer had one for $149.95. Not
sure I'd want one because of the size & weight, but they are
available.

for a single shot .410 handgun you can get a contender .45 long colt
(.410's work in it) with the special screw in rifling stopper. plus then
you'd have a contender which is a Pretty Cool Gun to own anyway (will fit
fifty or so different caliber barrels which you can buy used at gun shows
pretty cheap.)

A 410 double barreled pistol ideal for poaching was made during second world war by a
gun dealer on Melton rd Leicester UK sadly no longer there I did once see one some 30yrs
ago owned by someone in glenfield in Leicester for shooting pidgens I have spent years
trying to find one but with no luck

[MODERATOR: You should mention your locale so readers here know what restrictions
might affect the purchase. Are you posting from the UK? For a pistol, that might
be a pretty tall order.]
