# I have this Venezuelian Mauser that I aquired and I would like some
# information on it. It is a F.N. mauser that I think was made by Fuerzas
# Armadas but I'm not sure. I have a gun trader guide that says it is a
# short carbine model (if it is the gun), but I don't know what year it
# was made in because they have 1924, 1934/30 and 1930 models. Then right
# after the Venezuelian crest between and the sight and the reciever is a
# sideways egg. It has a crown on top with an E right below the crown in
# the egg, then a LG below that, and then finally a star bellow the LG.
# The barrel is 16 and 3/4 inches long, chambered in 7X57 mm, and it is
# stepped(the barrel not the cartrige). (It produces a very long bang even
# with ear plugs in, but hardly any kick.) Any information about it would
# be appricated.
I do not know of any arms manufacturers in Venezuela. "Fuerzas Armadas de
Venezuela" translates to Venezuelan Armed Forces. (Venezuela does make
ammunition, I have seen 7mm Mauser and .308. The company that
manufactures it is
called CAVIM.)
I briefly skimmed through Ball's book, "Mauser Military Rifles of the
World" and it
showed that the Venezuelan armed forces purchased the following weapons:
German Model 71/84 Rifle: 27000 pieces acquired.
Venezuelan Model 1910 Rifle: Prior to 1914, 6000 pieces were
acquire.
Czech VF 24 short rifle: During 1930s.
Venezuelan FN Model 24/30 Short rifle: mid-1930s ordered 16,500.
Venezuelan FN Model 24/30 Carbine:
Venezuelan FN Model 24/30 Target.
Then Venezuela went on to the SAFN (FN-49) in 7mm Mauser, then to
the FAL in
7mm Mauser (or similar), and finally to the FAL in 7.62 NATO (they
re-barreled the
7mm FALS to the 7.62).
It seems to me that you may have the Venezuelan FN Model 24/30 Carbine.
It has a
17.63 inch barrel. Note these rifles were made at FN. From Ball:
"National Crest of
Venezuela on top of the receiver ring, with 'FUERZAS ARMADAS de VENEZUELA'
on the
left side of the receiver ring and the manufactures' markings stamped into
the left
side rail."
Other Mauser fanatics could probably help more. I suggest the you call
Ellison's. He may have a better idea of what you have.
Take care,
-Robbie
