What kind of accuracy can I expect with this gun, especially if I prefer
to go hunting at longer ranges?

Btw- Is this "The Most Powerful Handgun Cartridge" in existence?

# What kind of accuracy can I expect with this gun, especially if I prefer

Your question may have several variables, At what range do you consider
"long range"?, are you using a scope?, and what is your intended target? I
have a Raging Bull in .454 with the 8" barrell, and have had good results in
the area of accuracy. I have stayed with open sights for now. Out of the box
I was impressed with the accuracy of the gun. At first I have only been
firing factory ammo (Winchester 260 GR solid points, about 160 shots fired)
but I am now set up to start reloading, so I am not completely comfortable
with the gun or the cartridge yet. Fine tuning the area of bullitt and
charge may give better results. At distances of 25 to 50 and even 75 yards 5
shot groups are very close. WELL within my personal limit for kill zone
accuracy standards on Deer size animals. I have even ventured to 100 yards
and beyond and still had acceptable results. ( on a target that was
standing still that is). It is not the most accurate handgun I have ever
fired, but we all have had a few special guns that no matter what we shot at
we could hit it (Dan Wesson .357, Ruger Redhawk .44, Thompson Contender 35
Remington, just a few of the guns I have been the most accurate with). All I
can say is I am very satisfied with my .454. If your gun is anything like
mine you will be as well.

This question too may have many variables. If you are only referring to a
REVOLVER that you can go to a sporting goods store and buy "maybe". I know
it is the most powerful "revolver" you can buy at our local Gander Mountain
store. But right next to the large caliber revolvers is a cabinet that has a
Thompson Contender from .30-.30 all the way up to .45-70. In that same store
I was cruising the gun magazine rack and found a new magazine that featured
a .45-70 revolver ( the entire mag was on large caliber handguns "what a
rush"). A while back I was at a gun range in Indiana and a Gent. had what
is called a .44 Rhino, A .357 maximum reworked to fire longer .44 ammo. "Now
that was a crowd pleaser". I suppose you have to draw the line somewhere and
maybe you have when you say "handgun cartridge",So as far as the .454
cartridge goes it may be, But just like cars "there's always someone faster"

I imagine the "Most Powerful Handgun Cartridge in the World" in this era
is gonna be a bit rough to point to specificly . The Wildcatters group
will have a hottest as will the factory made guys and the custom handrifle
folks will be yet another category though this ones gettin blurred of late
for sure . The revolver company that makes the Centurion I think has a
50-70 revolver available right ? That should cover Production or is that
handrifle ? There's the .500 Linebaugh vs. the upgunned .454 one ton of
muzzle vel arm breaker wild cats (If that guy really broke his arm I vote
for that one) and what on earth are bolt pistols chambered in these days
at the hot end of the spectrum ? Heck I'm clueless guys what is the "Most
Powerful Handgun in the World" ? We should know if anybody right ? as ever
Enjoy Life
Willi
Ps. Maybe we should have a flame thrower category too . Can you imagine
what that 50-70 looks like going off in twilight ?

Hello,

Concerning part B of your question :
Being no specialist in extremely powerfull cartridges (I only shoot 9mm para
(Glock17) and 357 magnum/38 sp (S&W 686)) I refer to the June issue of 'Guns
& Ammo' which has an extensive test (8 pages, with great pictures to) of a
Freedom Arms .475 Linebaugh (they even mention a .500 Linebaugh !). Their
measurements show for example that a 420 grain bullet can be propelled to
1.350 fps and produce groups of less than 1 inch at 25 yards, which seems
quite impressive to me.
Anything more powerfull around ?

Philip, Belgium

I've hit man sized targets at 300 yards using the RB's iron sights and
not a whole lot of effort. I imagine with a scope, any animal you could
possibly hunt on this continent would be in trouble.

Load my own 300gr. JHP with 31.5 gr. W296 and 250gr. JHP with 37gr.(very
compressed) of H110.
