I am looking for an inexpensive yet decent scope for my 10/22. I have never
bought a lower priced scope before and am looking at Simmons or Tasco. Which
company makes the better product and any recomendations of models for target
and field use?

Thanks,

Charlie

I have a Simmons .22 Mag 3X9 variable on my 10/22. I quite like the scope and
had no complaints until one day I accidentally bumped it and the cross-hairs
came out of square with the rest of the scope! I brought the scope into a
local gun store, and though I didn't buy it there, and had no purchase
receipt, they replaced the scope on the spot. I really hadn't expected them
to do that, but they said that Simmons stands behind their scopes 100%.

We have huge numbers of gophers and prairie dogs, and the rifle and scope see
a lot of action. I will definitely buy Simmons again!

This is like asking, should I get the Yugo or the Vega?

I guess the nod would go to the Simmons. I guess they would stand
up to a .22LR. I'm sure you're not talking about the $150 Japanese
mfg Simmons (they're OK) but the $40 X-Mart version (Korean mfg, bleh).

The problem I've had with both, is that the first several so-called
1/4" clicks take almost you an inch at a time, and then the next few
move it hardly at all, especially if the other axis is adjusted away
from center. Also, the more you adjust one axis, the more you
draw the other axis back towards center.

If you go this route, be sure and get the rings aligned and/or honed
very carefully, so that the scope lines up very close to the bore
axis to begin with. That way, you don't have to mess with the
reticle adjustment so much, and you'll reduce your scope zeroing
frustration.

I got tired of crappy gun-shop jobs and bought a collimator myself.
I don't think it's too much to ask to be on the paper at 50
yards or even 25, but I guess they Valley Gun shop gunsmith in MD
would disagree (not to name names... :)

I had the same thing happen to my Simmons 4x32 .22 MAG scope that I had
on my 10/22. One day at the range the crosshairs began to rotate inside
the scope!! By the time I was done shooting, they were sitting at 45
degrees. Anyway, I sent the scope in to Simmons and they fixed it and
had it back in 5 days!! So the quality of the scope may not be the
best, (for $50, what can you expect) but the quality of the service is
excellent.

the Burris scopes are an excellent value the Signature line has optic
comperable to Zeiss, and are very solid. for less money
thier other lines are very solid and are a good value.
