Actually, it's "JHP" standing for Jacketed Hollow Point. The idea is that
the hollow point (an open cavity where the point would be) causes the sides
of the slug to bend outward, increasing the diameter after it hits. There
gets to be some esoteric engineering involved in bullet design regarding
making sure the hollow point functions as intended at expected velocities
(without ripping off at higher velocities). Variations are JSP (Jacketed
Soft Point) with just the lead core exposed at the nose and SJHP
(SemiJacketed Hollow Point) with the jacket not extending all the way up to
the open nose. These are all attempts to make the slug open up after it
hits. Best examples are your everyday hunting ammo. If it all works
correctly, causes a great deal more damage than just punching a caliber size
hole...

My only guess is: Jacketed; Point Hollow!
Identical to the more common JHP or Jacketed Hollow Point.

If that's what you're looking at, it's your old classic self
defense
style of bullet, though can be used for other things. It
all depends
on what you want it for. It's cheaper for lead or plain
round-nose
"ball" ammo if you are just casual target shooting, and for
hunting
there's more effective styles for specific size/type of
animals.

If you mean JHP, it stands for jacketed hollow point. It is a lead bullet
with a cavity in the nose and a copper jacket made to expand when it enters
a fluid filled object. They are usually intended for self-defence when
loaded in pistol cartridges. They may or may not be suitable for hunting
due to lower penetration (compared to other types of bullets) and potential
for fragmenting upon impact. Certain types of JHP are very accurate.

If you mean JHP, it's Jacketed Hollow Point. It aids in getting probable
expansion of the bullet when it's passing through tissue, causing more damage
with less chance of overpenetration (shoot through).

Dear Don:

JHP stands for "jacketed hollow point." Whether this is a good type of ammo to
use depends on how you intend to use it.

Regards.

If you JHP, it stands for Jacketed Hollow Point. I have never heard of JPH.

#Is this a good type of ammo to use???

For what? Hunting? personal protection?

It means that ammo belongs to a friend of mine (John Paul Hickman). If
you have it without his permission you better give it back!

Seriously, it means Jacketed Hollow Point.
