The pin doesn't come out completely for a standard service disassembly.
The black thingamajig that you push down into the magazine area popped
back up. Just push it down till it lock in good. This will also
happen upon reassembly if you don't push the slide release into the
barrel link properly. In this case, a little manhanling is needed to pop
the release back out.
No tools or excessive force is neccessary for this procedure. Total
time for disassembly and resassembly should be less than a minute. I can
do it in about 30 seconds with eyes shut.(Read this to mean it is very
easy to do)
1) Drop the magazine
2) Pull back slide an lock open
3) Push the black thing down(in the magazine well on top) and lock
4) Release the slide, then open it to the point where the cutout on the
slide lines up with the rear of the slide release.
5) Pull slide release pin out 'til it stops moving
6) Slide the slide and barrel off

Also, to get an owner's manual, look for Ruger's number at www.recguns.com
# Just picked up a used P90 without an owners manual and I can't get the
# slide to go forward for removal. I can get the slide release pin out but
# apparently it does not remove completely. Can someone give me the
# procedure for removal? Thanks in advance.

I guess this can create the modern day equivalent of "Garand Thumb"
# Is it just me, or does it seem very unsafe to put your finger in the ejection
# port of a semi auto in the locked back position?
I've got a P-95, some issue as with the P-90 in the original question.
I've so far had no problem slipping my finger in for the split second that
I need to pop the ejector down. I just make sure that my hand is nowhere
near the slide release. Even then, the slide release is pretty tough to
release.

Just you. I have had a P90 for over a year now and never had the
slide slam shut on my fingers while taking it apart. Very little
pressure is required to push the lever down inside the mag well.
Maybe I have just been lucky!
