I had both a Ruger M-77 in .22LR and a Ruger 10/22 at one time. I had
extra ten round clips for both of them and I kept them when I traded
the rifles. Now I find three of them in a box and I don't know which
is which. Are they interchangeable? Is there some kind of marking on
them that identifies them?

You can use the 10/22 magazine in the bolt actions, but it will
protrude slightly. The 10/22 holds 10 rounds, the bolt action mag only
holds 9. They look slightly different - see

Thanks for the help. I loaded ten rounds into each of the three clips
so I am assuming they are all for the 10/22.

77/22 mag has a flat bottom. 10/22 mag has a slightly rounded bottom.

I had a 77/22 once. Seems to me that the magazine held 10 rounds. The
difference between the 10/22 mag and the 77/22 mag was that the bottom was
rounded slightly on one. Can't remember which was which but they were
interchangeable.

I based my earlier reply on some of the vagaries of New Zealand
firearm law. The 25 round Butler Creek magazine will fit in both the
10-22 and the 77-22. If you use the B-C magazine in a 77-22 when
you're out bunny-busting or possum culling here, it's perfectly legal
- as I understand. However, attach that same magazine to a 10-22 and
you've converted your rifle into a "military style semi-
automatic" (MSSA) and need an "E" category firearm license, a much
bigger safe, and a monitored alarm system before the NZ Police will
allow you to possess the magazine...
So... I keep five 10 round magazines.
So - because both rifles will take the 25 rounder, I assumed they're
interchangeable. I suspect from further discussion (above) that the
differences are related to cosmetic and capacity details.
Cheers,
W
