I have a Purdey shotgun. It's about 50 years old. Can anybody advise me
how to find out its actual age from serial number? Where can I find more
info on Purdey guns?

If it's really a Purdey and not a knockoff there is some information at
http://gunshop.com/dgsnos4.htm There's quite a bit of information found off the
home page of that site as well.

I would first check the precise spelling of the maker. If it is
"Purdey" as it appears in the subject line of the post, you may have the
real article.

However, if it is "Purdy" as written in the post itself, you may have a
knock-off made in Europe. It was not unusual for Belgian or Spanish
gunmakers to try to market guns with names slightly different from the
higher quality manufactuers,
