Not to be confused with Gale McMillan, father of the famed "McMillan"
fiberglass stock, or his family companies, McMillan Fiberglass Stocks
Inc., McBros Rifles (McMillan Bros Rifle Co, Inc), McMillan Machine Co. or
McMillan Optical Gunsight Co.
Let me first say DO NOT give work to or purchase any products from Harris
Gunworks formerly Harris-McMillan, McMillan Gunworks and G. McMillan!
(lot's of former names... gee I wonder why)
I unfortunately did. They lie, do unbelievably bad work, provide a
substandard product, will not stand behind their name, product or work and
do not pay attention to delivery dates!
Here is the true story of my experience...
I contacted Harris-McMillan believing, due to their advertising practices
that it was one of the Gale McMillan family businesses, specifically
McMillan Fiberglass Stocks Inc.
Harris-McMillan is not McMillan Fiberglass Stocks Inc. and they made no
attempt to clarify my confusion despite many referrals to the real G.
McMillan (Gale McMillan), maker of the legendary M-40 fiberglass stock.
What they did was send me a catalog of their products showing stocks they
supposedly designed for the US Navy and stocks used by the USMC. I found
out too late that these claims are lies, Harris has never sold stocks to
the US Navy or Marines, even the pictures of these stocks in Harris'
catalog is a fraud, the pictures are of stocks purchased from the REAL
McMillans before they quit selling to Harris. The interesting point is
that throughout the catalog referencing was made of their new name change
from McMillan Gunworks to Harris-McMillan, and that they were a division
of G. McMillan. All of these things led me to believe that I was, in fact
dealing with the McMillan Fiberglass Stocks Inc. business. WRONG!!
Harris-McMillan doesn't even have a McMillan in their business.
Throughout my dealings with Harris Gunworks formerly Harris-McMillan I
made many statements about the real McMillan Co. which could not have been
mistaken for Harris Gunworks. Harris Gunworks never made an attempt to
clarify my confusion. You see what Harris Gunworks has been doing is
riding on the shirttails of the McMillan name. Purposefully misleading
people into believing that they were doing business with McMillan
Fiberglass Stocks Inc. This is the reason they used McMillan in their many
former names. i.e. Harris-McMillan, McMillan Gunworks and G. McMillan.
It has taken several court mandates to try and prevent Harris Gunworks
from misleading the public as to who they are. Harris Gunworks has been
ordered to stop using pictures of McMillan stocks in their literature,
they have been ordered to stop using McMillan's proprietary names of
McMillan's stocks and finally they have been ordered to stop using the
McMillan name completely but it seems they ignore these court orders.
After receiving many broken promises, an inferior product and my barreled
action that was really screwed up. I did a bit of investigating through
all of you.
I found out that oddly enough Harris Gunworks formerly Harris-McMillan,
McMillan Gunworks and G. McMillan, does not have any affiliation
whatsoever with Gale McMillan, or his family companies, McMillan
Fiberglass Stocks Inc., McBros Rifles, McMillan Machine Co. or McMillan
Optical Gunsight Co.
I confronted Harris-McMillan with this information and was assured that
the M-40 stock that they fitted to my barreled action was a "McMillan
M-40". (O.K. I'm too trusting) I agreed to send the rifle back to them
despite their horrific work, lies and broken promises. After all, I had
invested a great deal of time and money in their work, and was guaranteed
that the stock was a "McMillan M-40". With more investigating I found out
it was not a "McMillan M-40" , it was not even a McMillan stock and it
definitely was not the stock used by the USMC.
I once again confronted Harris-McMillan with this new information. They
had the gall to, finally at this point in time, state "that I must have
been mistaken" and they said they had told me they were not affiliated
with McMillan Fiberglass Stocks. This is the first time I had ever heard
those words from Harris Gunworks. The truth is through a court order they
were mandated to cease using the McMillan name in all aspects of their
advertising and their Co. name, hence the final name change to Harris
Gunworks.
I'm finally done dealing with this company. I was fortunately able to get
some of my money back. No thanks to Harris Gunworks, I have been left a
few bucks short and with a barreled action that is all messed up.
Here is a list of what Harris Gunworks did for me:
Chewed up my action screws
Badly scratched my action and nicked my barrel
The heavy barrel was not even close to being free floated
Barrel not centered in barrel channel
Action bedding absolutely hideous (the neighbor boy could have done a
better job)
Both pillars were about 1/8" short top and bottom
Floor plate has to bend to fit the shoddy inlay and bedding job
Trigger guard is not vertically aligned with trigger and stock
Stock was not pre-finished, air pits left in it from molding
Milling not finished smooth
Poorly painted, could see their white bedding compound around
inletting
DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH HARRIS GUNWORKS!
They lie, do unbelievably bad work, provide a substandard product, will
not stand behind their name, product or work and do not pay attention to
delivery dates!
Do not let mislead dealings and experiences with Harris Gunworks formerly
Harris-McMillan, McMillan Gunworks and G. McMillan shine poorly on the
real McMillan businesses who are completely separate from this business.
The real Gale McMillan, father of the famed "McMillan" fiberglass stock,
and his family companies, McMillan Fiberglass Stocks Inc., McBros Rifles,
McMillan Machine Co. or McMillan Optical Gunsight Co. are companies that
stand behind their name and product. They will not lie, they provide an
excellent product, and do great work. McMillan's dedication to excellence
and their family name is unmatched. After doing business with McMillan
Fiberglass Stocks Inc. it has become very clear that finding any business
with this level of pride and customer satisfaction would be very
difficult. That's why they can afford to provide an unconditional hassle
free lifetime guarantee on their products (unlike Harris Gunworks, I was
beginning to believe that the Harris guarantee is once your money is in
Harris' pocket it is guaranteed to stay there)
Sincerely; Jim Landis
