Hi, all,

I just bought a Beretta .22LR (Model 21 Bobcat) today for my wife.
In the range, it jammed quite often, say, about every 10 rds. I bought
Beretta becasue I heard that it is the best jam-free little .22LR. But
now, I am a little disappointed...

Can anyone give me any suggestions? Oh, almost forgot to mention that the
ammo I used today was Wincester Super-X High Velocity .22LR.

Thanks!

Have your dealer send the gun (and magazine) back to Beretta to be
serviced. It'll take 4-6 weeks, but the pistol will function
perfectly when you get it back.

As I wrote in a previous posting, this should not be neccesary, but a
least for now, it sometimes is.

Hey, good folks at Beretta USA. Please smell the coffee! Your
reputation is on the line.

I have a model 21A, which I believe to be the same model you have
(although, I have never heard it called a Bobcat. Mine jammed often when
I first got it. However, I tried different brands of ammo with promising
results. Stingers NEVER, jammed in my gun, so I shot them exclusively.
Later, (after about 300 rounds) I tried some cheap "brick" ammo and the
gun worked flawlessly. Since then, the gun has about 750 rounds through
it without fail. I think these little guns need a long 'break-in' period
before they are reliable. Try some different ammo and after you find
some that works, shoot the poop out of it. Also, I find these little
pistols EXTREMELY accurate for as small as they are. It remains one of
my favorite guns to shoot because of the accuracy, and cost of ammo.
Hope this helps, because if you are like me, I hate sending a new gun
back to the factory only to wait 2 months to get it back.

First and formost, try a number of different types of ammo.
Frequently, a .22 will do poorly on one type of ammo, but be fine with
another type. Also, many guns will require a couple hundred rounds to
"break in" before they function properly. I never judge a gun until I
have at least two or three hundred rounds through it. First thing I'd
do is change the ammo.

RE: Need more info on the specific kind of "jam" you are having. There
are several different kinds and causes/fixes. I would try a different
mag. first however. If that proves to be the problem contact Beretta
for a replacement under warrentee.
Let me know with more specific information on what is happening and I
might be able to offer better advice.

Try some different ammo first. .22's are notoriously finicky about ammo.
In particular, I've had good success with CCI ammo, Stingers in
particular, with my 21a. If you still have the problems, then send it
back.

Before you do that, best to try a LOT of different brands of ammo. I have
one of these pistols, and they are fairly picky on ammo (as a lot of rimfire
semi-autos are). I use CCI MiniMags exclusively, and never have a problem.
If that doesn't solve it, then I would go ahead and send the unit back. But
at least give it a try.

I have had problems with Federal match ammo (light load), but no trouble
with Thuderbolt, Winchester stuff in the grey box, or CCI stingers. Both
"pocket" autoloaders (including the Beretta) show this problem. The
American Arms Walther clone specifically addresses the issue, with a
SECOND suggestion about potential magazine problem. Try the ammunition
first - get a box of various kinds. Also, MAKE SURE THE WEAPON IS
PROPERLY CLEANED! Autoloaders don't like dirt. I have a Colt Woodsman
that is VERY dirt sensitive.

Let us know the outcome.

I too, was a little disappointed with "jams" at first. I had stovepiping,
eject failures and feed fails. At the time I was using cheapo Winchester
ammo. On the advice of a friend I went to CCI Mini Mag only. I have tried
their Stinger (hollow point) and +V (super high velocity, square nose)
and neither seems to work as well as just plain Mini Mag's. I have fed
over 500 rounds through. Every couple of weeks I run a mag through at
rapid fire -- all works flawlessly now.

The other responder may have a point about mechanical problems. I've read
elsewhere that the magazine spacing at top is critical.

Good luck.

I suggest
