as the title states, i am in need of 1 (possibly 2) barrels. to my
understanding the Norinco m-201c ( which i own) and the Tokarev T-33
have the same barrel. (Right?) anyhow i have combed local gunsmiths and
internet stores and havent found anything except an expired ebay
sale... any how anything to further expand my knowledge of the pistol
or where to find a barrel or 2, would be greatly appreciated...

Ps i am also looking into purchasing a AK-47 friday in Houston.. Any
one with any information that is crucial to this firearm would also be
appreciated...

I bought a drop-in 9mm conversion barrel for my Russian TT33 several
years ago from Navy Arms. Don't know if they still have them or not.
All that was required was replacing the barrel and it functioned pretty
well. That is, it fired fine and the action worked as expected, but I
had occasional feed problems as I was using the original TT33 mags that
are designed for the longer bottleneck 7.62 Tokarev round. I was
unwilling to install the mag well spacer in my TT33 that would have
allowed use of the mags designed for the 9mm round. And, I was too
cheap to buy the standard size mags with the spacer built into the mag.
I would get a failure to feed about once every two or three mags
fired, and that was irritating enough that I put the original 7.62
barrel back in and forgot about the conversion.

That should not be a problem for you if you are starting with a Norinco
9mm frame. As far as I know the Norinco and TT33 barrels are identical
except for the important dimension of caliber. An original TT33 barrel
will be 7.62 rather than 9mm. And not all Norinco pistols that are
based on the TT33 design will be 9mm. They started out with the same
7.62 round for which the pistol was designed. I think that they only
made the 9mm versions for sale in the American market. So, you can't
just buy a Norinco barrel - make sure that you are buying a Norinco 9mm
barrel, or a 7.62 barrel may show up at your door.

It is not that hard to make one.
Here we see a long Tokarev barrel I made from a Parker Hale .308 bull
barrel:

http://www.thehighroad.org/attachment.php?s=&postid=784771

But you or your gunsmith could make one from a 9mm barrel blank.

I prefer the Tokarev in 9x23mm, and if you find an old Tokarev 213
barrel, it is easy to open up the chamber.

For choosing to fight, one gets the horrors or war, stress, and possibly
death.
For choosing not to fight, one gets subjugation, humiliation, and
possibly death.
Choose your fights carefully.

Assuming the Norinco 201c has the same frame & slide dimensions as the Type
54 (similar to the original Russian TT-33), then try:

http://www.marstar.ca/Tok-9x19mm-Barrel.htm
http://tinyurl.com/q5nyn (checks ebay including common Tokarev misspellings)
http://www.gibbsrifle.com/ (Gibbs Rifle Co.)
http://www.tdwsales.com/page/page/232510.htm
http://www.sarcoinc.com/
http://www.hunterslodge.com/ (caveat emptor-note controversial merchant)
www.gunbroker.com - search under "9mm" and "tokarev"

Also note it may require an ejector modification, B-West sent out a TSB on
this a few years ago. It wasn't a safety issue, it was more of a reliability
or performance improvement that didn't affect the 7.62x25 operation.

How did you acquire a 201c? It appears to be a Canadian model.

Re:AK-47 - are you aware of the 7.62x39 ammunition shortage?

Thanks,

Rick
