You may remember my earlier post 4 weeks ago telling you how my retailer
would not look after me when my new scope A BUSHNELL SPORTVIEW 38MM Wide
Angle self-destructed and I was told to send it by mail to have it
fixed... well Bushnell chose to replace the scope and I had a new one in
1 week after sending it down.... WELL NOW THAT ONE IS SCREWED UP TOO!!!!!
The first lens (Eyepiece) has come loose and it is rattling around now
and I can't belive it!! Thats 2 scopes in 3 months... I treat my gun with
the utmost care have never dropped or abused it and I always transport it
in a locked hardshell padded case...
Can anyone suggest a different scope brand for me to go to OTHER than
Leupold I can't afford $300-500 for a scope...
I Like the bigger objective lens...
Maybe a Redfield or Burris....?
Thanks in advance!
Stef
I had a Ruger Mini-30 (wish I had it back!) that I put three, yes three
Bushnell Sportview scopes on and none of them could even take the
punishment of the Mini-30. Now if you've ever shot one, you know that,
as my Dad says, "there ain't a kick in a box-car load of 'em."
I've gone with Simmons and Tasco here lately and they seem O.K. In
truth though, I think the old adage "you should spend as much on your
scope as you do your rifle" is good advice. And another good one is
"the stingy man spends the most."
I still buy cheap scopes though. So sue me.

Your commentary regarding the quality of Bushnell Sportview scopes
is, IMHO, correct. Usually you get what you pay for, but in my
experience with Sportviews you get even less. It's too bad because
their higher-line Bauch&Lomb scopes are really very good.
I have had problems with Sportviews and so have many of my friends.
I believe that Redfield makes some of the best quality low priced
scopes around. Even their lower priced "tracker" models which range
from about $140 - $200 are VERY solid and have never caused me any
problems. As an example I have a 4x40MM redfield "Rifle" scope
on my Remington 1187 12g Slug Gun. It was been on this
gun for three seasons without even having to be adjusted at
pre-season sight-in. I could not even begin to guess how many
times I have fired this gun since that scope was mounted.
I am convinced that no Sportview would have ever even survived the
first season, much less not need adjustment.
I have 2 other Redfields on my rifles, all of which have never
had any problem.

As far alternative riflescopes, I would probably suggest Burris
scopes; they have some decently priced scopes. Get yourself a copy
of Shotgun News and start looking there. Check advertisers like
