Need to know what a new Daisy BB Gun cost back in 1970. Any ideas?
Specifically the Red Ryder lever action style model you just had to cock once
and fire.
Researching for an article I'm writing.
Thanks!!

In 1969 a wood stock 500 shots Daisy Red Ryder model 102 sold new for $8.95.
Earlier models, from the 50's and 60's, sold for around $13 new. I hope that
helps.

or with the case of 5000 bbs $6.99

I'm pretty sure you must be thinking about another B.B. gun. My dad bought me
one of the 50th anniversary Red Ryder's in '88 (I'm young), and I don't think
they had been discontinued prior to that. I forget the address, but there is a
web page that shows the progression of the Red Ryder from it's initial release
through today, and I don't think there's ever a gap.

The Red Ryder is still available, just saw it at Wal-Mart today.

The 1975 Gun Digest lists a Daisy 7938 Red Ryder Commemorative at
$20.50. The description says "commemorates one of Daisy's most popular
guns, the Red Ryder of the 1940s and 1950s".
The cheapest Daisy is listed at $15.75 and the most expensive in 1975
was the Daisy/FWB 4300 at $325.00

Now I have a hankering to break out my old daisy and pick off some Dixie cups.
Unfortunately, I live in an apartment complex, and even though the complex
butts up to a wooded area, I'm not about to start walking around the woods in
Austin with anything that even looks like a gun. And I'm certainly not taking
my BB gun to the rifle range. I want to be able to go back there. Guess I'll
have to wait until I can go visit somebody with a yard or a farm.

Sounds like you need to build/buy a BB trap and shoot inside your apartment.

I thougth about that, but unless I stand in my bedroom and shoot down the
hallway, past the kitchen and livingroom, at a target in the entry hall, the
range wouldn't really be worth the trouble.

i was born 1970, at age 7 i inherited my uncles daisy BB gun(he owned
it for at least 5 years, maybe more). i dont know if it was a red
ryder or what, but you cock it with a lever which is also the
handguard. the tip(muzzle/barrel) can be screwed out and when done so,
it looks like a shotgun. when just twisted a bit, the muzzle exposes a
hole near the front sight. you can pour a tube full(bbs come in paper
tubes when we buy them)of bbs(100pcs?)twist the barrel back in place
and you just cock and shoot. it will shoot each bb individualy.
mine has a wooden stock. the body is sheetmetal and has a small oil
hole near the rear sight.
he said he bought it for less than a hundred pesos(we live in the
Philippines), at that time, its about 45 dollars.

Fill a box with newspapers and go for it...

I'm just glad that the weather is nice again so I can open the door to the
patio. Down the hall and through the living room and out to the patio gives
me a decent range. Glad my apartment has a privacy fence in back or I'm
sure I'd get a note on the door from managment.
