Hello All,

Need to know what a new Daisy BB Gun cost back in 1970. Any ideas?
Specifically the Red Ryder lever action style model you just had to cock once
and fire.

Researching for an article I'm writing.

Thanks!!

I don't know if that specific model is included, but my source for all
suggested retail prices and availability for almost any gun is the
back of the Gun Digest for the year of interest. The local library
has these back to the early '60s, don't know about yours. The Air Gun
Digest also had a catalog section, but I don't know if it included BB
guns. My editions of that are buried out of sight, sorry.

In 1969 a wood stock 500 shots Daisy Red Ryder model 102 sold new for $8.95.
Earlier models, from the 50's and 60's, sold for around $13 new. I hope that
helps.

A 1970 Gun Digest does not list the Red Ryder, but the lever actions ranged in
price from $8.95 to $21.49.

If my memory serves me (and it frequently doesn't) the Red Ryder was
discontinued, probably quite a few years before 1970, I would be suprised if
it made it into the 60's.

Walmart has plenty of Red Ryder's. Don't know if they have in continuous
production. Couple of years ago we were watching "The Christmas Story"
and I complained that no one had ever given me a Daisy. My daughter came
back with a 60th Anniversary Limited Edition Red Ryder....More plastic
parts, but will go through today's soda cans and gets cats out of the
flower patch. Says Daisy Model 1938B, Cal 4.5mm on top. Regular models
were on the shelf as of last night.

I'm pretty sure you must be thinking about another B.B. gun. My dad bought me
one of the 50th anniversary Red Ryder's in '88 (I'm young), and I don't think
they had been discontinued prior to that. I forget the address, but there is a
web page that shows the progression of the Red Ryder from it's initial release
through today, and I don't think there's ever a gap.

The Daisy lever BB gun I started my boys on was purchased in 1970 or 1971.
I can not be assured that they were still in production but they were still
on the
shelf. I do not recall what I paid for it but it will start my
grandchildren.

The 1975 Gun Digest lists a Daisy 7938 Red Ryder Commemorative at
$20.50. The description says "commemorates one of Daisy's most popular
guns, the Red Ryder of the 1940s and 1950s".

The cheapest Daisy is listed at $15.75 and the most expensive in 1975
was the Daisy/FWB 4300 at $325.00

around $10 I would think. Maybe even less. You can get a Daisy Buck at
Wal-Mart for $19 now. They are fun.

Now I have a hankering to break out my old daisy and pick off some Dixie cups.
Unfortunately, I live in an apartment complex, and even though the complex
butts up to a wooded area, I'm not about to start walking around the woods in
Austin with anything that even looks like a gun. And I'm certainly not taking
my BB gun to the rifle range. I want to be able to go back there. Guess I'll
have to wait until I can go visit somebody with a yard or a farm.

Sounds like you need to build/buy a BB trap and shoot inside your apartment.

I thougth about that, but unless I stand in my bedroom and shoot down the
hallway, past the kitchen and livingroom, at a target in the entry hall, the
range wouldn't really be worth the trouble.

I remember that either the Remington 510 or 511 .22 rifle was $5.40 in
the '40s.

i was born 1970, at age 7 i inherited my uncles daisy BB gun(he owned
it for at least 5 years, maybe more). i dont know if it was a red
ryder or what, but you cock it with a lever which is also the
handguard. the tip(muzzle/barrel) can be screwed out and when done so,
it looks like a shotgun. when just twisted a bit, the muzzle exposes a
hole near the front sight. you can pour a tube full(bbs come in paper
tubes when we buy them)of bbs(100pcs?)twist the barrel back in place
and you just cock and shoot. it will shoot each bb individualy.

mine has a wooden stock. the body is sheetmetal and has a small oil
hole near the rear sight.

he said he bought it for less than a hundred pesos(we live in the
Philippines), at that time, its about 45 dollars.

I'm just glad that the weather is nice again so I can open the door to the
patio. Down the hall and through the living room and out to the patio gives
me a decent range. Glad my apartment has a privacy fence in back or I'm
sure I'd get a note on the door from managment.
