Puzzle--what gun is this?

Given the following, anyone have any ideas on what gun this might be? The
blank spaces below are covered by the scope.

I have a rifle with a scope mounted on top of the manufacturer's name. All
I can read is CARL STADS and underneath is GEV
ORI

This was sent to me. No other information is available, and he does not
want to remove the scope.

It's a Sewdish Mauser? It should say:

Carl Gustafs Stad (all caps)
Gevärsfaktori (all caps)

Below that should be an age-date.

I think the puzzle is solved.

It's a M1896 Swedish Mauser. It should say:

Carl Gustafs Stad (all caps)
Gevärsfaktori (all caps)

A Swede. Most likely a 96 or 38 6.5x55mm. Can't remember off the top
of my head if the Carl Gustaf works did any non-military work, but
someone will surely remember.
