I reload with Vihtavuori N 340. it burns very cleanly. My recipe is 4.3
grains N 340 under a 125 grain LRN bullet, MRP brass (mostly) and a Federal
primer. The result is around 1050 fps out of my Bul M5 (1911-type) pistol.

A large amount of factory loaded 9mm is being loaded with Hercules (Alliant)
Bullseye-84 (now available in cansisters as Power Pistol). Also popular is
WAP1 as a
factory propellant but leaves a gritty residue.

Gee, I shoot a G17 too.
I've been very happy with maximum charges of Winchester Super Field (WSF)
in 9mmx19 using 115g projectiles. Winchester has a reloading pamphlet
for their powders. Low amounts of unburned powder residues,
low flash and blast, excellent velocity performance without excessive
pressure.
I mainly shoot 115 gr. FMJ or JHP in mixed brass with Federal, CCI,
or Winchester primers in either a SIG P228 or a Star M43. I don't
know if it's the cleanest powder, but I'm quite pleased with the
results I've had with Vihtavuori 3N37 powder. In several afternoon
sessions, I've shot through several hundred rounds with little more
than a light covering of powder soot -- nothing nearly like what
I've experienced with Winchester and Accurate powders (especially
Accurate, which leaves my hands covered with spent powder grime).
The only problem I've had with loading 3N37 is that it's a very
tiny flake powder (originally used for loading .22 rimfire) and
I can't feed it reliably through my big ugly Hornady powder
measure. It feeds very well (and very consistently) through my
cheapo Lee plastic powder measure (which is so cheap that I can
easily afford to leave one set for my usual 115 gr. 9x19mm load).
If you decide to try it, start with a pound and make sure it's
going to feed consistently through your powder measure .....
Anyhow, I hope this helps .....
