I had a look at an inlaw's 22LR rifle over thanksgiving weekend. It has
a stainless barrell, wood stock, bolt action (single shot) and an 18
inch barrell at first glance. It had no serial number and the following
markings:

Geco Mod 1919
Original n Geco
Prazisions Karabiner
Modell 1919

This rifle was purchased during WWII, possibly overseas. My estimation
is that it is a French or German Carbine. Any information would be
appreciated. Reply to either newsgroup, or by e-mail.

Thanks in advance.

PS Any ideas on the value of this rifle would also be helpful.

What is there to identify? It is a Geco (Gustav Genschow & Co) Model 1919
Praezisions Karabiner (precision [shooting] carbine). While I believe Gustav
Genschow & Co is no longer in business, Dynamit Nobel still markets ammunition
under the old label of Geco.

Since all the wording is German, and ole Gustav was a good German, rest
assured, your little rifle was made in Germany.

Cordially,

As others have told you this is a pre WWII gun. The value would be around
$100- $150 depending on condition. Where did you get the idea it has a
stainless barrel? The one I have has a plain steel barrel.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
