# I just bought a Chinese air rifle made by 'Industry Brand' in
# Shanghai, China. It says Model 61 on the box, but the owners
# manual says Model B1. It's a .177 cal spring piston gun that
# breaks open in the center. The owners manual doesn't say what
# the muzzle velocity is, and wasn't very specific about anything.
# It did say that I should get 30mm groups at 30 meters. That's
# about 1in groups at 25yds. I looked in shotgun news for a similar
# model to compare it to, but couldn't find any from this
# manufacturer. I paid $29 for this gun. Is that a good deal?
# I wanted to ask the guy at the store about it, but he only
# spoke spanish. If anyone has any information about the
# muzzle velocity or where I can order spare parts, please
# email the information to me.
Are you happy with it? Could you afford the $30 you spent? If the answer
is "yes", then it's a good deal. I would suggest that you take the
accuracy figures with a large grain of salt, and don't compare the gun
(visually, quality, accuracy) to any of the major brand names.
I have one and use it for controlling the flying rats. It works well for
it's intended purpose, but it's certainly not an Anschutz....

The rifle you have is manufactured in various locations within China and
sold in every little mom & pop store there. I lived in China for some
time and had to console my shooting urges with one of these air rifles
until I got to be friends with a local military official.
These guns are "modest" in terms of workmanship and accuracy. Some shot
better than others, some broke more often than others. As for the "61"
and "B1" discrepancies, to some Chinese (those with limited English
skills), the lowercase "b" is no different than the arabic "6" and are
interchanged frequently. It's also no great leap for them to change a
lowercase "b" (which may have previously been interchanged from the "6")
to an uppercase "B".
Don't get hung up on accuracy, dependability or what is written on the
box - set it aside as a curio that you can plink with once in a while.
If your local gunsmith can't make a part that might break, you're kinda
S.O.L.
