# I'd like to know how you folks out there have fared with the .358 Winchester
#cartridge with elk, moose, and maybe even some hog or bear. I'm aware of the
#250- yard limit convention on such animals, and so will be keeping my shots to
#such range. The gun that I'm eyeballing is a Browning BLR 81 with a Lyman peep
#sight.

I used to have a BLR in .358 Win. set up just the way you describe. I
found a problem using the Lyman peep sight I had installed. Because of
the high polish on the barrel and the shapes involved I found that if
you face the late evening or early morning sun the reflected sun will
make sighting impossible. I guess that you could have the finish
redone to be less reflective, but my solution was to mount a 2.5X
Weaver in low Weaver rings on Weaver two piece bases. This resulted in
a very low sight plane that was as fast as the peep sight and suited
my old eyes better.
Enjoy your BLR .358, it is a wonderful rifle!
