Price was $1000.
Is this the going price for one of these? Is this the real deal? Can
anyone shed more light onto the situation? Any web sites or news
stories about the breda guns?

I was not aware of any Breda M1's in the US, all of the Breda parts I'm aware
of came in as either parts kits or on US lend-lease Garands repatriatred from
the Danish.
Be warned, there are companies making new receivers for M1's, and assembling
them with parts kits, many of which contain Breda parts, but those are
generally sub-par in quality and safety.

By your own description, it is NOT a new M1.
It is built on an old (read used) receiver and probably from used GI parts or
possibly even commercial reproduction parts then refinished to make it look new.
You can get a Danish M1 from the CMP for $420.00 or a GI Service Grade M1 from
the CMP for $520.00. If you are not a member of an affiliated club and don't
have any rounds for record on file (or a DD214) you might end up putting out
another $100.00 - $150.00 for that. Assuming the highest costs in both cases,
that would still leave you over $300.00 to have the rifle re-finished and make
it look pretty.

Not really. I bought two Italian M1 receivers a couple years back (one Breda,
one Beretta), and used italian parts to build them up.
Could just be some guy who did the same as me, now wants to make a huge profit
on it.
If you can get a rifle from CMP, you will save some money - enough to have
you CMP rifle shipped somewhere and re-barreled when you wear it out. The
CMP rifles are $520. Not new, but they are supposed to be ready for service.
For $1000, check out www.odcmp.com and do not be afraid of the shooting
requirement. You do not need a minimum score to "qualify", you just have to
shoot a match.

Those are old stock receivers they have had in storage for some time.
M1 Garand receivers can not be imported at this point, unless they are partially
finished castings, and we have seen where that leads with the Century new
receivers.
