I am not expert, but I had a friend who experienced problems with early
barrels and recent production frames. Sorry, I cannot give you details, the
friend passed away.
I would be hesitant unless the price is VERY low (making the barrel
resellable if it doesn't work for you) or you can test fit the barrel to
your frame. The best option would obviously be to test fit before buying.
Unless it is a TCA offering for an Encore, it certainly
will fit your Contender

RB, As Mr. Henley said, they are non-catalogued factory barrels offered for
some interesting cartridges or with alternative barrel lengths and
configurations. They are otherwise not overly special so be careful not to
pay too much. Check out http://www.edstc.com/edstc/tca.html for a selection
of TCA barrels and fair prices. If you are looking for a combination not
offered by the factory be sure to check out the Fox Ridge Custom Shop
http://www.foxridgeoutfitters.com/customshop/index.html Good hunting!

I've run into a few problems but been able to fix them with a little judicious
adjustment by way of Dremel tool.
