I thought the barrels weren't removable.

If I remember correctly you have to use a lath to make a relief cut in the
shoulder of the old barrel in order to remove it. I'd leave the whole job
to a competent gunsmith.

The bbls are threaded into the receiver and are removable, but VERY
difficult. Be prepared to cut a relief in the bbl just in front of the
receiver.

The barrels of a Mark 2 are removable with a rubber or plastic mallet.
You have to knock it in the opposite direction of the feet that hold the
barrel to the frame. It's been so long I don't remember if you whack it
from the front or rear.

Some ppl change their own stock barrel, but it's a not easy and easy
to torque the receiver into a pretzel, so don't try this alone, get a
pro....

Additionally, fit and alignment are critical, as the feed ramp and extractor
slot are integral with the barrel. I could be mistaken but I believe Ruger,
for that reason, actually does the receiver milling *after* the barrel is
installed.
The barrel itself is a pretty common supressor type. For the life of me, I
can't see what else it's good for. Entire suppressor-fitted receivers are
readily available and, as insanely expensive as they are, probably don't
cost any more than a suppressor + installation for the new barrel (plus.
when you're done, you have two receivers).
The adapter is good for attaching a wide variety of barrels were the
whole receiver is not required, for instance shoot with a 2" or 10" barrel
from the same registered receiver.....
I think the Multi Barrel law will ride in tandem with swapping a
1911a1 barrel, which raises almost no concern.....
In Canada, you need a 12(6) rating in your PAL permits to use a
shorter than 105mm barrel, or .25/.32 cal...go figure that one too...heh....
Some just cut the barrel off, and rethread the barrel chamber, but
that can be a little messy, on the Commercial Scale, you might try to see
some Volquartsen "unadvertised" systems of Ruger MK* configurations in
Iowa,...close to Browning's...but they won't talk to just anybody, you
practically have to be there in person....
As in Nye's *Super Duper Handy Book of Silencers*, there are all
kinds of sionic suppressor designs, and some are not too technical and
require minimal tooling.
You can go with the disposable plastic Coke bottle full of packing
peanuts, or tin can end, all the way to a metal sleeve/sheave with
surgically spaced circular baffles, that would go with a drilled, milled
down barrel, and a re-rifling....
Though this would still be a permanent barrel so far.......there
tons of silencer ideas on a Ruger MK?? fixed barrel configuration.
I've seen replacement target barrels for the MK-II for sale locally. Not
same as what's shown on the web site. This just seems to be some barrel
extension. It's the whole upper assembly is replaced.
Dave
That removes the barrel/receiver together - as is done for a
thorough cleaning.
This thread is about taking the barrel and receiver apart.
