I want to experiment with those 30 caliber sabots that hold 223 55 grain
bullets.
The website lists some hypothetical loads that they indicate a velocity of
over 3500 fps,
using a full powder charge.
I was more interersted in a 30/06 load that would push a 55 grain slug at
about 2500 - 2700 fps.
Any experienced users out there?
Any advise on where to start, to develope loads from scratch? Would
extrapolating lead reloads
be a reasonable way to start, assuming I'd adjust the initial load to be a
minimum charge?

I assume that by the time you added the sabots, they would cost as
much or more than .30 cal bullets, have greater drop, less accuracy
and less power... I don't see an up side...

I have tried 55, 62, 69, 80 gr .223 bullets with 30 cal Sabots.
I have loaded for 308, 30.06, 300 Win Mag.
I have found the heavier the 223 bullet the better the accuracy especially
when loading for the 300 Win Mag.
Sabot are okay and generally zing out the barrel at 3-5000+ fps depending on
caliber and powder load, they are not as accurate compared to the normal 30
cal bullets normally fired from these rifles.
Sabot bullets will not function the mechanism of a semi-auto rifle so these
are primarily for bolt gun use only, unless you don't mind manually cycling
the action between rounds.
I recommend the seating tool sold by the company on the website as an aid in
handloading so you don't deform the sabot during the reloading operation..

I was just inquiring if anyone had some experience with these sabots.
I would assume that the plastic sabot would have much less friction drag in
the
rifle bore, than jacketed bullets, or even lead slugs, so peak pressures
should / may / ??
be less than for a given powder charge.
