My Ruger Deerfield .44 mag carbine has integral Ruger ring mounts. I
need a Weaver style base in order to attach a red dot type sight to the
little rifle. What do I need to modify the attachment point so that I
can put this type sight on a Ruger rifle?

Weigand sells a Weaver style mount for the Ruger:

I recently put one on a Ruger PC9, and it's a little higher than I
like, but it's been solid so far, with a few hundred rounds through
it. It's got plastic washers that clamp it into place, but the
Mini-14 folks all agree that they hold up just fine.

There are 2 general types of red dot sights - those that incorporate
built-in permanent rings, and those that have a plain tubular body like
a scope, often in a 30mm diameter.

If your red dot sight is the second type, note that you can save some
money by not buying a separate Weaver type base. You can instead send
the 1" rings back to Ruger and they will exchange them for 30mm rings,
which can accomodate that type of red dot sight.
