I know that FN makes the current M4 inventory for the US Forces, and that
the Colt Sporter is the civilian counterpart.
What is the quality of the
Olympic Arms
Eagle
Armalite
Quality Parts (Bushmaster)
Any opinions out there.
I have been really impressed by the Olympic OA-93 pistol based on an
AR-15 receiver. Does anyone have experience with this particular piece?
All collective knowledge is much appreciated.
Thanks in Advance,

Politics aside. IMO I think the best post-ban guns with ar-15 type receivers
are made by Colt. They are extremely well made and finished nicely.
Pre-ban guns, well that depends on when they were made. Olympic Arms and
Bushmaster made some very nice guns when there were no government bans pending.
After the 1989 import ban, when Colt voluntarily pulled there AR-15 off the
market and during the 1994 crime bill the demand for these guns skyrocketed.
The quality of these guns were not up to par. Some people purchased AR-15
rifles from both these companies with parts missing or poor fitting.
Bushmaster and Olympic have receivers that are clones of the original Colt
(e.g. they can accept a drop in sear but you need to pay the $200 tax stamp
for this class III weapon, they also have push pin receivers). Bushmaster is
truly Mil spec or better. Olympic ( in between bans when they had time to
build their guns correctly) are unique innovators of ar-15 weapons systems;
you can buy 9mm, 45 ACP,40 S&W,6mm ppc and 7.62x39 rifle uppers for your push
pin type receivers. Their guns are almost as good as Bushmasters (Olympic arms
guns are made Mil-spec also) except the finish doesn't hold up as well as
Bushmasters. BTW Olympic makes the most accurate production AR-15 rifle out
there in the Ultramatch. In either company (Bushmaster or Olympic) their
customer service was very poor during the crime bill.
Eagle Arms makes consistently the best finished guns as good as Colt in the
glory days. Their receivers are modified so it is very hard to convert to
Class III but you don't need to worry about that since all you want is a good
semi-auto. These guys have great customer service.
Armalite? If you mean Armalite division of Fairchild they went out of the
gun making business and sold the rights to the M-16 to Colt in the early
60's. If you mean Armalite of Eagle Arms which makes the AR-10 well I expect
it to be the same as Eagle arms.
There are other companies like Pac-West arms and DPMS but they deal mostly
in parts kits not compelete weapons ( maybe DPMS sells complete rifles now?
I don't know, I have never seen a factory assembled rifle).
Spare parts are easier to find if you buy a Bushmaster or Olympic. Colt
parts for a Colt gun can only be had from Colt since their receiver, hammer,
pins and hole diameters are different than anyone elses.
I think the Olympic OA-93 is no longer available for sale to the public.
Those individuals who had orders prior to the crime bill are the only ones
I hear that currently have them. Expect to pay a premium $3000.00+ for them.
Hope this helps. Please correct me if I made any mistakes.
