HOPE SOMEONE OUT THERE HAS SOME LEGAL EXPERTISE ON THIS. HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY
TO BUY A NICE MARBLES GAME GETTER complete with stock, but has 15 inch barrels.
what is a federal form 4, how hard is it to file, is it good for as long as i
own the gun, what are the pitfalls and are there any new york state laws that
would prohibit my owning it if i register it on my ny state pistol permit?
thanks. BART

The weapon CANNOT be registered..... it is CONTRABAND, one cannot register an
NFA weapon AFTER it is made (except Class II manufacturer and even then they
must file the paperwork within 24 hrs).

Assuming that this NFA arm is already registered with the BATF, you'd go
through basically the same process as for buying a machine gun or a sawed-off
shotgun or destructive device.

The Form 4/tax stamp is good for as long as you own the gun.

True, but the game getter may already be registered legally. It can also
be legally registered during BATF "amnesty" periods.

Thanks... but the gun is already registered w/ the batf... I just want to file
the BATF form 4 and take posession. It's NY state law I'm concerned with,
since the BATF says it has no problem with the transfer federally speakin.
tks.

According to the FAQ (
http://www.cs.cmu.edu/afs/cs.cmu.edu/user/wbardwel/public/nfalist/nfa_faq.txt
), NT State does not allow short barreled rifles or shotguns

Now, when was the last "amnesty" period? Do you think there's a chance they'd
do something like that again? I'd really like a Sten, but I can't see paying
$1000+, not to mention the $200 tax, for what is basically $200 worth of
parts, and an $800 piece of serial-numbered pipe...

I'll check, but I am pretty sure NY is a non-NFA state. This certainly
is true WRT machineguns. It is worth researching further to see if they
also proscribe other NFA toys, such as SBS, SBR, AOW ( which I beleive
is what the Game Getter will be registered as) DD and silencers.

Hey, it could be worse. An M-16 is a $700 gun with a $2-4000 piece of
paper attached to it, a swedish K is a piece of tube, a $200 parts
set, and a $2000 piece of paper, and full-auto 10-22 is some machining
on a $50 trigger pack with a $1500 piece of paper, and at the top of
the list of course are full-auto berettas, which are $500 guns, $200
sear moods, and from $5K on up in paper costs. Talk about creating a
false economy dependent on regulated supply and demand.

As far as I know, NY allows AOW's as long as the applicant for the form 4 is the
holder of a valid NYS Pistol license. SBS's and SBR's as well as all MG's are
prohibited. CLEO signoff could be a problem, however........If this weapon has a
stock, it would be an SBS and therefore banned in NYS. no stock, AOW and ok.
