A 20-something hottie came to my door over the weekend with a petition and
some leaflets for a candidate who needs signatures to get on the ballot for
NY State Senate. A quick peek at the pamphlet revealed the usual list of hot
button topics: economy, war, health care, more potato chips for all
citizens, immigration, blah blah blah. Considering that micro-stamping
legislation is floating around the state senate, I asked the political
powerhouse about her candidate's views on gun rights in general, and that
issue in particular. She stammered a bit, said "I'm not exactly sure about
that thing", followed by "...but I know she fully supports the 5th
amendment."

We are doomed if this is typical of the up & coming generation.

[MODERATOR: I knew we were doomed when at a national museum we overheard
a teacher walking her middle school class through a WW II section, and
telling the kids all about "world war eleven." ]

Maybe her students will be fighting World War Eleven. The last world
war lasted less than a month after nuclear weapons were used. There
are plenty of countries who hate each other enough to have nine more
world wars in a few years.

I'm 51 and appalled by how little people know of even recent history or how
twisted thier knowledge is, if they have some.

I have 2 kids, a 16 yo boy and a 7 yo girl. I have already corrupted both of
them politically. 8) My boy doesn't know it yet but he is getting additional
reading starting this year. De Toqueville, Stuart, Sun Tzu, Machiavelli, etc.
I'm going to read or reread the books I've got for him myself so we can talk
about it. My kids will have a clear idea of how the world works before they
get to it. Oh and I model a lot of military stuff, tanks, planes, ships, etc.
And have quite a library to boot. Kind of a amature historian of the 20th
Century conflist and it's causes. A nephew who syayed with us through the
summer when he was younger actually got extra credit for a report he did based
on my own brainwashing of WWII events.

We also live near Fort Knox and we can hear 'em training the troopies on the
M1 Abrams and the Bradleys. Depending on what range they use we can hear the
Abrams main guns and even the chain guns on the Brads (or ehatever they are
using, it's pretty distinct. My little girl knows that it is our soldiers
getting ready to go defend the country for the bad people.

Oh, and the 7 yo shot for the first time on Sunday. My Ruger single Six, the
Mark II and my old High Standard Sportmatic. She was even earing back the
hammer with one hand while holding on to it with the other. I think she liked
the Single six best. That's my girl! She even hit a couple of the milk jugs we
had set up!

She wants to shoot my 1892 S&W Safety hammerless in .32 S&W 'cuz it is so
small and fits her well, but I don't think she has the strength to work the
trigger yet, it's a hard pull.

Mebbe I need a round butt J frame in .22. Aww now I have to buy another gun!

I'm 62 and lived next to B-36 bases - and B-52 bases and firing Missile Silos.
Early 50's
My first recollection is a wing of B-36's turning our way - miles away - while
warming up their engines. They spent time to save engine wear. It was loud!
Early 60's
Then three wings of B-52's forming up in formation before all flying off in
the same direction - that brought chills. It was Bay of Pigs week.
I knew that one wing was in the air at a time. But all three meaning one
was off station and the ready was there and the one that just came back
was there. And painted in battle colors. Chilling for a Jr High kid I tell you!

It is good when an understanding is obtained early in their years.
They may never be a gunner, but enjoy shooting or simply know life
saving skill.

I was an Air Force brat, spent most of my formative years on SAC bases.
Dad worked the Atlas missile silos around Roswell during the Bay of Pigs
and the Cuban Missile Crisis. We didn't see him for weeks. Lots of
nervous family members.
Then there was the time the B52 hangar blew up, knocked me off my
feet just as I was coming out the door of the school.

My Dad was AT&T/Western-Electric - Radar expert and went from SAC base to
another and then to White Sands - then South Pacific....
I left for school about that time.

After school, I taught advanced training for B-36 designers so they would
have a better background for the Solid-state F-111 bomber/fighter.

Working in the Bomb/Nav group - radar - the open house used a radar to
home in on and rattle 50's on unscheduled inspectors. Some shook fingers,
others got out of there. They didn't do it the next year open house!

A couple of hotties were working the crowd at a parade. Clipboards
and forms for each county, they were trying to get a bill on the
ballot to stop animal cruelty.

Everyone was signing up.

When it was my turn, I asked if she meant dog fighting and puppy
mills. No. She meant farming.

Good grief.

Have you seen the license requirements for new Hams?
Tech class now doesn't even require a code test.
It was getting as bad as CB radio which is when I sold ALL my HF & VHF
equipment.

Jennifer Dunn was a Republican congresswoman with an NRA rating of B
that always won with huge margins in WA's 8th district.

She was going to retire in 2007 and the position was up for grabs.

I was in my workshop building on a rifle, when in walks the Democratic
nominee for the position, wanting to shake my hand and give my a
flyer.

I said I was a single issue pro gun voter.
He said he supported the second amendment.
I said that "I support the second amendment." is a DNC talking point.
I asked if his support for the second amendment included doing
something about getting rid of 30,000 gun control laws that in
violation of the second amendment.

He did not respond to that question, but instead wrote something down
in a little book.

He lost. Republican Dave Reichert won.
