I am the proud new owner of my first Thompson Contender and looking forward to a new
lifelong expirience in shooting. The gun was bought slightly used in 7mm TCU with a 10in
barrel, I found out that the 14in is no longer in production and can only be bought with
a custom order. I would like to hear from other 7mm TCU owners on what loads they
recomend and if they have any preferences for cast tips. My wife gave me everything I
need to reload the 7mm TCU for Christmas except for the powder and case forming die. I
borrowed the die tonight to form my 500 brand new shells so I am almost ready to do some
loading!

Is it really necessary to trim the cases ? I have heard opinions from both sides ?
I am also looking to purchase a mold in the near future any suggestions ?

I've got a 14" 7TCU and I'm thinking of getting a 10". (Handier,
Production Class, etc.) Anybody know why TC is no longer making the 14"
(maybe I should just cut my barrel down?)? I'm reloading with Speer 130
gr pistol bullets and 28 grains of 4064.

Remember to cast your bullet very hard! Even in a 10" barrel you could
experience leading if they are not hard. I would buy jacketed bullets.

I've had good luck with Hodgdon H322 and Accurate Arms 2015BR. I've had
sub MOA groups with 26-28 grs of 2015BR under a Hornady 120gr SSP bullet
at 2.550" C.O.L. It is a near clone of H322 of which I use 26.0 grs
under the same bullet. Both the Hornady bullet & the Sierra 130gr
single shot pistol bullet have shown good accuracy with this load. BTW,
standard disclaimer: I'm not responsible if you blow your gun/self up.
:)
My next powder to try will be the VihtaVuori N133. I've heard good
things about it and other VV Oy stuff is great in my short barrels.
(pistols).

I shoot a 10" 7TCU in metallic Silhoutte competition and find it to be
a superbly accurate round. In fact it shoots far better than the person
pulling the trigger.
My silhoutte load is 24.5 gr of Accurate Arms 2015BR powder behind a
Hornady 154 gr spire point bullet. Federal primers are preferred. This
gives me about 1600 fps out of the 10" barrel. Chronographed.
Love my Contender.

I have both 10 and 14 inch barrels. The 14" was purchased used and the
throat is very worn (.086" differance from my new 10"). I also shoot
154gr Hornadays but I use H335 and get 1800 from ny 10" and close to 2000
from the 14"(lots of impressive flash).

How is the accuracy with the H335? The powders recommended to me were
H4895, AA2520, & AA2015BR.
Glad you enjoy as much as I do!!!!

Strange, but my Contender in 7TCU (and other bbls also) has the same
problem.

Have you tried the Hornady 139 grain bullets - either flat base or boat
tails? Or the Nosler Ballistic Tip 140 grain? We shoot Long Range pistol
here in the UK at paper targets at 200 and 300 yards. But no silhouettes,
the authorities won't allow it - yet! I'm just in the process of working
up loads for my Contender and that weight bullet seems the best
compromise.

I tried 139s and all I had to do was ring one ram. If they don't fall
over they don't count ;-(

Accuracy is excelent. The problem with the extruded powders is getting
them into the case. I used to use IMR 3031 and had to make a drop tube
to get enough in.

I have a 14" that Ive shot MS with for years, along with a bunch of
coyotes and small game. I know they kill California deer well enough
as one of my buddies used my pistol and load to take one a couple
years ago.

Dxxx! I wish I had one of those in a whitetail deer category. I have to hunt from the car (with
permit), and that would be much better out the window than a rifle.
