Why?
Because even when the safety was in original condition, it sucked so badly
that it shouldn't be used anyways.
See, with something like this or a Davis, Lorcin or other low-end semiauto
the best answer is carry it with a full clip, safety off, empty chamber.
To fire, rack the slide and go...this is also known as "Condition 3" and
relies on no bullet in front of the firing pin at all for safety.
Knowing that, somebody either didn't care when the safety broke or they
removed it for fear it would engage in mid-combat, which is entirely
conceivable.
DON'T pay too much, as in $75 or so might be reasonable, and feed it
something easy to digest like Winchester Silvertips for "serious work",
hardball for plinking and you'll have a decent practice gun and a somewhat
fair bedside defender. It's NOT the choice of pros but it'll probably get
you through the night.
IF you can afford anything better, do so. Most used .38Special revolvers
would be an upgrade...

# I have been offered a Bryco 59 9 mm auto. that is missing the safety

Skip it. Anything from Bryco is probably better used as a paperweight,
from what I've read.
Chris
Well said. The PBS Frontline article on the massive unreported gun
theft at Lorcin made an extremely good point when they quoted the Gun
Test review that said a person would be better off being unarmed than
with a Lorcin for defense. I think that applies to others of the same
ilk/consortium/family such as Bryco, Jennings, Davis etc. With
"friends" like these the gun industry needs no enemies. Some fool
talked my mom into buying a Raven .25 auto and I'm still looking to take
an acetelene torch to it when she's not looking.

P.S. Excuse the massive run on sentance, it's been a long day.

Agreed. Brycos are junk, every gang banger should have one.

I hate to admit it but a couple of years ago I bought THREE. <don't laugh>
I didn't know any better. I had mostly shot rifles and the few pistols
that I had ever shot had all been good quality pistols. I assumed that all
pistols were good. (Told you I didn't know any better) I found out real
quick that they were very unreliable and would jam and stovepipe a lot.
I had bought one for me, one for my wife and one for my son. Finally got
rid of ALL THREE of them and yes I did get ID on who I sold them to.
Now have a Norinco .45 and a Colt Gov. .380. My son has a Sig. No regrets
at all on getting rid of the *&%# Jennings.
Just ny opinion....Jim from Texas
It takes a BIG man to admit he bought not one, not two, but three Jennings
handweights. You have my respect. :)
Chris
...and shoot it sideways, from the head, thrusting the weapon in the
direction of the bullets' trajectory....
