I am still on the fence as far as selling it, so I would only sell it
if I could get at least what I originally paid for it ($2000). I did a
search of rec.guns and didn't find many references to it. Can anyone
suggest a good place to sell this type of gun? Is there a market?
I know you can buy a Carbon-15 .223 pistol for under $1000 these days,
so I am wondering if the OA-93's pre-ban status and lack of buffer
tube in the rear would make the gun that much desireable. Any comments
would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Jim
P.S. - For those who are unfamiliar with this firearm, it's a pistol
version of an AR15 with a 6-1/2" bbl and no protruding buffer tube.
Rather, the buffer spring is a pull spring on top.

# I have a pre-ban Olympic Arms OA-93 AR-15 pistol that I
# purchased in 1993. While it's a fun gun, I have put less
# than 200 rounds through it in 8 years. Unfortunately, I
# usually shoot at indoor ranges and most won't allow .223.
This is the gun which caused ATF to ban the cheap steel-core 7.62 X 39mm
started offering them in that chambering. (See:

By whatever criteria you felt made it worth $2,000 in 1993... I don't
see it myself... what makes you think it would be worth that much today?

IIRC, the prices skyrocketed because of BJ Clinton and the
"assault-weapon ban" craze.... I saw one AR change hands 3 times in 2
months selling each time 3-500 dollars higher than the previous and it
never left the consignment rack. As it is, he'll be lucky to get
$1,000 today.

While I am not a regular in rec.guns, I do post here occasionally,
using my real name. Even those posts I keep few and far between. Many
may disagree with me, but I worry about things like employment
background checks. It is fairly common these days to do internet
searches for names of potential employees. I work in the computer
industry so I imagine it's even more likely for me. If someone does a
search for my name, I would prefer that the top hits to be
"comp.database..." rather than "rec.guns" or "alt.engr.explosives" or
"politics.bill_clinton_is_a_liar", etc.
I am not involved in any illegal activities and all the firearms I own
are legal but I prefer to keep a low profile on the internet. This is
not to say I am a closet gun owner or afraid to defend firearms. I am
an NRA member as well as a member of the NRA affiliate in my state. I
even hang targets on my wall at work and engage in debates over
firearms. I simply pick my battles rather than let someone who doesn't
know me draw their own conclusions and decide that an "assault" weapon
owner or conservative Republican, etc. is not a good job candidate or
"wouldn't fit in here."

"Jim"

Well, at first it wasn't that much. I placed an order on it for
substantially less and then the ban passed and I was told that $2,000
was the new price if I still wanted it. I realized that no more would
be made and there seemed to be an incredible demand so I decided to
buy it, thinking that I could later sell it if I changed my mind. As
for today, if you read my post, you would see that the whole reason
for the post was seeing *if* it is worth that much today.

Jim Moore _claims_ he is a retired BATF agent, but his credibility went
right in the toilet when he was caught plagiarizing false reports of
non-existant Congressional hearings.

I read on here before that one should not buy guns for the investment
value, but instead should buy guns just for the hobby and for fun.
You should not try to make money off of the hobby that you enjoy
because invariably, this plan will backfire. For example, a friend
bought an Intratec DC9 thinking that because of the bans, it would go
up in value. Today, it's still a cheap gangsta gun that no one really
wants to buy. Oh well.
Buy 'em to enjoy, not to resell later on..
