I have a new Remington 870 20 ga and would like to replace the front
bead sight with a fiber optic sight. Parts diagram shows it as a
separate part. I tried to unscrew it with a pair of pliers with no
success. Any suggestions?

The front sight on my 870 was swaged in place, it would only rotate but
would not unscrew. I just cut it off, cleaned it up and used JB wld to
attach the new fiber optic sight.

If you have a vent rib, the thing is set in place by a circular crimp
applied around the base. I think the plain barrels are screwed in. If you
want it out, you will have to grind it off, and then drill it. It might pull
out, but there is so little to hold on to I doubt it.

Cut it off, drill it out and tap to desired size. Use a rigid drill
press setup and a drill jig. Sometimes the tools for these "$5/20
min." jobs cost a lot more than the parts themselves. If you're not
tooled up, take it to a good smith who is. A lot of Remington shotgun
beads are pressed and/or crimped. Cheaper than tapping!
