Has anybody fired the new Smith 2206? And if so, how does it compare with
the Model 41?

Tom,
one is a plinker, (even the target model is a plinker) the other
(M-41) is a target pistol. The cost difference shows you the
relative value.
Technically the 41 has a better bbl lockup, better sights, way
better trigger, and user changable bbl. in 2 lengths.
2206 is good to start with if you plan to upgrade, with the 41
your next upgrade is to a 2000.00 Hamerlli?? (spelling?)

good shooting

A few years ago (I don't know about now) S&W made the 422, the 622, the 2206,
and the 41. The 422 is a light alloy 10 shot .22LR semi-auto and was blued.
The 622 was the same thing, except the finish was white metal (like stainless),
but it was not stainless. The 2206 (which I own and love) is the full
stainles version. It is much heavier and more steady than the 422 or 622.
All have multiple possible barrel lengths. Good little plinkers--adj sights,
etc.

The 41 is a differnt story. At twice the price (at least), it is an out
of the box competition .22LR. Nice wood grips, very pleasing finish and
very accurate. Its a whole new animal from the 2206. Different leagues.

I agree with the above. The Model 41 is a beutiful .22 target
pistol. You'll find a lot of NRA target competition shooters using the
model 41. When you talk about the Model 41, you have to mention
something about the Model 52. That's another target pistol chambered for
38 special wadcutter only, and it is accurate as a laser guided missile.
It is one of the most beautifully made guns S&W makes.

Good that it is heavier. When I fired the 422 and the 41 side-by-side
a few years ago, one of the things I noticed about the 422 was the
(excessive?) muzzle flip. It seemed worse than a Ruger Mk II I had
tried earlier.

I bought a Model 41 with a 7" barrel, and am quite happy with it. It's
only defect is that it won't feed some ammo types reliably. You have
to feed it what it likes, or else tinker with the spring. (I haven't
gotten into that yet.)
