I dont have a lot of money to spend (Hence the $200 limit) since im a poor
college kid :(
I want to put a good scope on the 22 I buy for small varmint, shooting cans,
etc.. at 100 yds or less.
Please advise as to the most accurate and best rifle, if you have any other
suggestions please dont refrain from posting.
Thanks,

You can probably get more accuracy at a cheaper price by looking at bolt
actions. They usually have a better trigger too.

I haven't tried the Savage, but of the other 2, I'd go (have gone) with
the Marlin. I think it is a better shooter, better looking, feels
better in the hands. If you want to shoot I say go with the Marlin, if
you want to spend time an money tinkering with it, go with the Ruger.
Not that the Ruger is a bad rifle, great little plinker at a reasonable
price and durable as hell. I just feel that the Marlin is just as
durable and shoots a lot better.
That's my two cents worth.

Good luck.

Marlin 60 is pretty accurate for a semi-auto. Noticeably more
accurate than a stock 10/22 on average. But the Savage will
easily better it for accuracy.
Ruger 10/22 will come in last among these 3 for accuracy in stock
form.
Now Marlin makes an 880SQ heavy barrel bolt action that is quite
competitive with the Savage. But has a less nice stock and a
generally less well made feel to it. But it will shoot accurately.
Good luck,
Dennis

#Marlin 60
Can be quite accurate, but also can be a jam-o-matic depending on
your luck.
#Savage Mark II
Probably the best among these three and among the best of low priced
..22's in general. Excellent reputation. I have one of the synthetic
stocked models and it is a very good shooter.
#Ruger 10/22
Spotty record for accuracy. Handsome rifles, and the internal
magazine is very nice. Large selection of aftermarket parts to cure
accuracy problems and spif 'em up.

# ok,

Honestly, look around for a Mossberg Mod. 46B. Great rifle, and if you
can find one it should only be about $100. I got one, with the #4 peep
sight, about 2 years ago, with the right ammo it will hold on a quarter
at 50 yds (from a rest). It's about 60 years old now (give or take a
few) and I expect that it will pass to my as yet to be thought of
grandkids.
Don't be afraid to buy something used, usually there is nothing wrong
it, the owner either needs a little ready cash, needs to reduce his
inventory, or the owner died and the heirs don't want it.

Either the Marlin or the Ruger. The Marlin Model 60 is probably the
most gun for the money of the 22's. The Savages have very rough
triggers. I own both the Ruger 10-22 and the Marlin Model 60 and
have a Savage bolt action in 22magnum.

Just went through this myself last month.
Marlin 60 or the Ruger 10/22
both are better quality than the Savage, which just looks and feels cheap
and rough.
The wood on the Ruger is much nicer than the Marlin, but most agree the
Marlin has better accuracy.
But large magazines (and many other accessories) are available for the
Ruger, and it' nice to shoot for a while and NOT have to reload the tube as
in the Marlin.
Best prices I have seen @ WalMart - Marlin 60 $99 ($159 stainless), Ruger
10/22 $159 ($214 stainless deluxe with nice hand checkered walnut stock)
My Dad got the Marlin in blued, my wife gave me the stainless Ruger for
Christmas, both of us are very pleased.
Additionally, Marlin makes a removable magazine fed rifle that's harder to
find.... I think it is the Model 895 or somesuch... looks like a modifed 60
design.

What you do is buy some 1/4 inch tubing (I prefer brass, but, heck,
plastic would work), cut it to length, cap one end, or even just pinch
it off, and you have loading tubes. Just load up a bunch before you go
to the range, pull the plunger all the way out of the tube magazine of
the Mod. 60, take one of your handy dandy loading tube and dump in the
rounds. Not as hard on the thumb as reloading the 10/22 mags.
However, the rings I got with the gun are crap (bought them from
Wal-Mart also). I tightened them up as much as I could, heh, even
tried tightening them with a wrench so they wouldn't budge, but after
firing around 200 rounds I still find the scope to be inching
backwards and the rings slipping.
Suggestions?

Yes, buy new rings, something of higher quality this time. Burris,
Leupold, and Millet all make good rings.
If the rings are slipping on the mount, go to a Weaver-type mount.
