#tell me what u really think...
The best advice I can give you is to get the gun that you will be
willing to carry every day.
That said, my choice in a carry gun had two other primary
requirements: small enough to conceal VERY well (NY state
requirements), powerful enough to be effective (45 ACP preferred).
My final choice, and the gun I still carry daily after many years: the
S&W TSW-4513. This is the "tactical" version of the S&W semiauto
series, meaning that it is slicked up a little, and the grip is cut a
little shorter for better concealment. It holds six in the magazine
plus the one in the chamber. However the normal S&W 45ACP mags also
work, although protrude out a little. So my spare mag is one of those,
with another 7 rounds in that mag. Small, powerful, heavy enough to be
easy to shoot (it is stainless), light enough to carry all the time.
Just what I wanted.
Just for comparison, I also own a SIG 9mm, a Para 45 ACP, a S&W .357
revolver, a Kahr .40, etc. The TSW is still the one I carry except in
special circumstances. When I feel especially paranoid (reported
crimes in my neighborhood) I carry the Para for the 14 round capacity.
When I can't use the belt holster, I carry the Kahr in an ankle
holster.

I have carried a Patriot 45 for years.....since some of the first ones
sold. Works every time and on the mark with all shapes and sizes of
handloads etc.. Only con, if it is one, is the heavy trigger. This gun
does not have safety. Does not need one with the heavy trigger.

I think your question raises lots of questions... Casual concealment
or deep cover? What climate? What clothing? What sort of holster
are you comfortable with? How tall are you? What do you weigh? How
much training have you had? How often will you practice? In what way
has your 642 disappointed you? Selfloader or revolver? SA? DA
revolver - hammer or hammerless? DA selfloader - safety or hammer
dropper? DAO selfloader - restrike or no? No one else can answer
these questions for you.
I don't know about you , but I would find it hard to conceal AND carry an
APC (Armoured Personel Carrier)
They tend to be rather bulky, no matter what "caliber" they come with...
: - ))
There are a lot of factors that are unclear
Such as
your body shape, and how well your "piece will fit agains it ?
where and how you holster ?
what kind of holster you intend to wear ?
what you wear summer, winter and in-between ?
how "deep" you want to carry ?
(bell holster - or inside the clothes (SmartCarry)
is "printing" an issue in your state ?
How many rounds you want available ?
reloads ?
I have a Llama Mini-Max II, double-stack (10+1) that I like
But I like to carry something much lighter, so I usually carry a Colt
Agent with "snubbie" ammo.
Glock 30 SF !
More affordable is the Kahr CW45 (http://www.kahr.com/
PA-1_45acp_cw.html)
6+1 rounds, DAO, weighs about 2oz more
Both of these are best suited to experienced shooters.
HI All,
I use a hip ,inside the pants holster ,with a cover vest. works good.
Good luck finding a good 1945 Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) that you can
conceal. Suggest you switch to a small .45 ACP instead. Ha ha.
Seriously though, you should have no problem finding one that you like.
There are so many out there, the best way to get what is right for you is to
try to find a shooting range with rental guns and try some. If that is not
available, join a local shooting club and put out the word. Most guys are
happy to let you try theirs. What is right for me will probably suck for
you. We all have different size and shape hands. So, actually trying them
is the best way to choose.

That's the gun that swore me off Taurus autos for good.
I have both and I give the personal edge to the Glock - the Kahr has a
trigger guard that is sort of "pinched" at the front and the bottom of
that trigger guard slaps my trigger finger rather painfully when I
fire more than a magazine or two.
Both are fine, high-quality firearms - just pick your pleasure.
And different budgets.
Kahrs are fine, outstanding weapons, but I have heard this criticism of
the .45 caliber Kahrs before.

Put a piece of steel of a similar weight where you plan to carry it and keep
it there all day, every day for a week. Are you still willing to carry it?
Adjust yoiur choice accordingly.

That may not be a valid test, as a good holster will make a tremendous
difference. Your piece of steel probably will not be in a holster.

Good point, Dan. My bad.
And don't forget a really GOOD belt, at least 1.5" wide, and preferable very
stiff to spread the load evenly and not allow the holster to rotate out.
In reality you should buy the belt first and budget $50+ for it,
1911, one of the light commander style guns. I carry a 70 series GI
most every day or a 4" XD in 45ACP. I am a big dude so I can hid them
easily. stil a 1911 style gun is safe, reliable and most new guns
shoot real well.

I consider a 1911 like riding a bike. A little tricky to learn, but
safe and reliable as long as you don't do stupid things like cross the
railroad tracks at an angle (puting your finger on the trigger while
you holster with the safety off).
Every person is different, of course, but with a good holster and a
decent belt, I don't even know it's there, even with a 38 oz (empty)
gun. One thing that helps with the weight is to have the waist on
your belt on the snug side so that it helps support the gun. I've
never needed one of the specialized belts, just a good heavy duty
everyday belt.
If you carry IWB, then barrel length does not make a difference in
concealment. But we are lucky here in Ohio in that total concealment
is not an issue.
I find the 1911 guns, being thinner, conceal easier than most other
pistols. It conceals easier than my Sig Sauer pistols.

i purchased a Taurus millenium pro 745....6+1
shoots low and left quite abit...
adjudtable front and rear sights...
bringin the allen wrench 2 the range this weekend...
will report on success or failure...

If you haven't shot it a bunch, I wouldn't go adjusting the sights yet.
Might just be too little trigger finger or jerking or both. If you adjust
it, then get used to it, you will be high and right.
