I bought this Cabela's Millenium revolver in .45 Long Colt for $199.99
before shipping and taxes and a 20.00 transfer fee for my dealer having to
do the paperwork. I will get it around late December because they put me on
backorder. Does anyone know anything about these revolvers as to if you
could get a .45 ACP cylinder? Does 45 ACP require moonclips?

1) You can get anything if you're willing to pay enough. That doesn't mean
it's a good idea. If you've got enough money to contemplate custom
cylinders, just get a revolver in .45ACP. I would be stunned if anybody
offers a ready-made .45ACP cylinder for this revolver. (It wouldn't be the
first time I was wrong, but I'd still be stunned.)

2) Theoretically you could do it without the clips but I wouldn't try it.
(Interestingly, you can actually buy .45ACP brass in a rimmed format.
Remington made them. I don't believe the cartridges are offered complete at
retail any more.)

I have one of these revolvers and while it's not fancy, it's a fun little
gun. I don't see why you'd want to go to all that trouble over it, though.
The whole point of it is that it's an inexpensive cowboy shooting revolver.
Change it to .45ACP, and it's no longer inexpensive or a cowboy shooting
revolver.

Gun Test magazine gave the Millenium Revolver a very good review,
saying that it was a great bargan. They said it is actually made by
Umberti, which has a very good reputation. If I didn't already have
my EMF (Armi San Marcos)Hartford .45 Colt SSA copy, I'd be very
tempted to pick one up.

You could have a .45ACP cylinder fitted, but if that's the way you
want to go, take your time and find one made that way. It took me a year
and a half to find my second one, but after I did, I have seen two more.
For under $300. And these are slightly nicer guns with color case
hardened frame and polished brass.
If you still want to fit one to a Millennium, somebody on the SASS
Wire, (a discussion group in the SASS website), had a couple for sale a
couple months ago.
If you get one, you won't need moon clips.

The above rantings are the opinions of the writer, (C.J.), and are
not nessesarily in agreement with anything that anybody else thinks, or
would care to. Any resemblance to political correctness is purely
coincidental, entirely unintentional and probably your imagination.

Gun Tests magazine (similar to Consumer's Report) has the gun on their

So, which moon clips (full or half) fit through the loading gate <g>? Moon
clips aren't necessary as long as the cartridge headspaces on the case mouth
(they are necessary in some Colt 1917 models).

This is the first I've heard of this gun. $200 is pretty cheap for a
Uberti SAA. I have one called an 1875 Outlaw that's a copy of the
Remington. It's got both cylinders and doesn't need clips. I don't know how
you'd use clips on a SAA unless you pulled the cylinder out each time.

Unless you can find a cylinder to fit without modification, it sounds
like more trouble than you probably want to go through for a gun costing
$200. Might as well find another SAA that has both cylinders, like my
Uberti or the convertible Blackhawk.

I have a Uberti copy of a Remington 1875 (Outlaw) and it has a .45 acp
cylinder. It doesnt' require clips. There's a step inside each chamber that
catches the front edge of the brass. Ruger does the same thing in their
blackhawk.
