The reason I'm asking these questions is that I bought a couple of
used hi-cap Sig factory magazines this weekend at a swap meet. One of
them has Sig Sauer P226 stamped on its side. The other looks
identical as far as I can tell, except it only says Sig Sauer. Did
some of the P226 factory magazines NOT have P226 stamped on them, or
is this magazine one that will work in more than just one Sig model?

# Can Sig Sauer P226 9mm magazines be used in any other Sig firearm
# models? At the risk of showing my considerable ignorance about Sigs,
# is the P229 also a 9mm or is it a .40 Cal?
The 229 came in 9mm and .40. I've the .40 models more than the 9mm.
The 9mm 226 magazine will also fit in the 228 but will protrude a little. I
think, but am not sure, that it will fit in the 9mm 229. I remember reading an
ad for 228 mags that said they would fit 9mm 229 also.
Also keep in mind that 226 is also made in .40. But any hi caps are stamped
LEO.

The P228 is a 9mm only. The P226 was originally only a 9mm but is not
available in .40 and .357sig as well. The P229 is available in all these
calibers as well. The 9mm P226 mags will function in the P228 and in the
9mm P229 but stick out. The 9mm and .40/.357 mags are not
interchangeable.

The Sig P-226 is also available in 40 cal. And I'm also assuming 357 Sig
cal as well, but I'm not sure on that. The Sig P-226 9mm magazine will
fit the P-228, and the P-229 chambered in 9mm. It's will fit in the Sig
P-229 chambered in 40 cal as well, but is a bit loose, as the 40 cal/357
Sig magazines have a little wider body than the 9mm magazines.
I don't know if the same magazines used for the 9mm (15 round) P-226 are
used in the 40 cal version, but it wouldn't surprise me. Many 9mm and 40
cal magazines can be interchanged among the same manufacturer. I believe
that Beretta uses the same magazine for 9mm and 40 cal; with the 40 cal
'high capacity' being 11 rounds.
