I have a Kahr K40 that I purchased last summer. It is a wonderful
shooting gun. Accurate and easy to handle. However, I have been having
an annoying problem with it in that after I fire the last round in a
magazine, every 2nd or 3rd magazine, the slide stop does not catch the
slide to keep it rearward. I then have to cock the gun manually for the
next magazine. I see no reason for this as it may happen with several
different magazines, different ammo, the spent shell is ejected just fine
and the company replaced the slide lock and one of my magazines. I am
sending the gun back once again but any advice or ideas about this problem
would be appreciated. I don't know enough about the fine points of pistol
mechanics to be able to determine what could be causing the problem. If
you have any ideas you could post a reply or email me. Thanks. --

hello randall

My name is Dave, i'm the master gunsmith at The Custom Shop, your problem may
be a matter of the ammo, i have had serveral Kahr pistols that needed a short
break in period (200-300 rds) before the recoil spring broke in . Have you
tried useing factory new full metal jacket non-promo or hollow point ammo. get
back to me or you may give me a call at the shop.

Call the company and send it back. Check their web site for phone or e-mail.
They are excellent to work with. I had a minor problem (brass ejecting into my
face), and a magazine that was sticking. They call. I sent the gun and they
fixed both problems. Turn around was quick. They were easy to talk with and
very helpful. My Kahr is now perfect!

Assuming magazine is pushing slide lock up when empty, then it is probably
ammo not producing enough energy to overcome recoil spring to move slide past
lock up notch. Recoil spring may need to set a bit before problem goes away.

Check the magazine springs for wear. I had the same problem with my
glock. One of my magazine springs had bound up probably due to me
pushing too hard while loading it. Because the spring was caught on
itself it would not allow the magazine follower to raise the slide stop
on a empty magazine. I would make sure that the mags are clean,
especially inside. Try the simple things first. You might just have worn
out springs, especially if you leave the magazines loaded for extended
time periods.

The documentation that came with my Kahr (yes, I read it) said that the gun
could not be considered reliable until after a break-in period of 200 rounds
had been fired.
