If anyone could help me with information on these rifles,
especially book or magazine references, I would appreciate
it.

At a recent gun show I came across a nice C.G. Haenel
sporting rifle (Mannlicher style bolt, double set triggers,
Schnabel forend), but the owner was unsure of the caliber,
as the codes stamped on the rifle were unknown to both of
us.

After some research, I believe it is chambered for the early
8mm Mauser round, with a .318 bore (as compared to the usual
.323 of the model 98). 7x57 and 9x57 are also possibilities
with this type of rifle. Anyway, I'd also be interested if
anyone knows where to obtain a good supply .318 caliber bullets.

Thanks in advance,

-Dave

p.s. Does anyone know what has happened to the Mauser-Werke
discussion forum? Suddenly it's asking for a user name and
password.

And the fabulous 9 x 63 (Mod. 88).

RWS, Norma, Sellier & Bellot. 12,7 grams softpoint round nose. That's it.

Also, Huntington of Oroville, CA, supplies a bullet made in Michigan (I
believe).
It is 196 grains, round nose, of I (J) .318 caliber, and made of copper alloy
jacket
in contrast to the ones listed previously, which are steel jacketed.

Cordially,

Klaus
