I've just acquired a Benelli 95E in 22LR. I downloaded the manual
from the factory site, but it shows nothing regarding removing the
grip (I want to soak the whole shebang in a liter of Ed's Red, less
grip.)

The parts diagram calls the device that retains it a "fastening nut",
but looking down the hole in the end of the grip, I can see nothing
but a concave, cupped surface; no place for a screwdriver or hex key.

Help!

I have an MP90S, which has the adjustable palm shelf on the grip. On mine,
you have to remove the shelf to get access to the nut. It takes either a 5
or 6 mm hex key to remove the nut. Many 95's have the MP90S grips
installed on them as an upgrade, so that may be what's confusing.

Reference materials indicate that the grip is removed with a longish
6mm hex wrench, but it sounds like you have already eliminated that
possibility.

Could it be a hex nut with a protrusion, like this other Benelli part?

No, it is cupped. What is the application of the part you referenced?

Thanks.

It looks like you even have access to the pin at the grip top that
holds the grip retention hardware in place. I have what appears to be
the standard stock, however, the previous owner glued a shelf onto the
grip. It is clearly home made. He left open the access hole for the
nut, but for sure, I can absolutely nothing on the nut to grab.

As the shelf is likely glued on, I can probably twist it loose. Who
knows what I'll find underneath.

I couldn't find your exact part - this was a part off of a different
Benelli that I thought might be similar.

Geez. After I got the shelf off, sure enough, I was able to see the
hex facets inside the nut.

===>>> 6mm HEX it is ! <<<===

I should have tried this on reading your message days ago! I just
could not see any facets, even with a butt light (NOT THE BEER) in the
channel.

Why in the (*&^$ does the MANUAL not state it is a 6mm HEX on the
nut? Too much. Those guys need some help with their Engrish, too.

Thanks to all for your help.
