I have an RG Model 38 S revolver that I need to disassemble so that I can
see what is wrong with it. You can not pull the hammer back far enough to
cock it. Can someone tell me how to get the trigger mechanism out of it or
where to find instructions on this? Thanks for all help.

What is wrong with it is that it was made by RG.

I haven't seen one of those Saturday night specials in years, don't want to,
and I would be surprised to learn that RG actually developed some quality. It
may not be worth your trouble.

Whatever you do, don't depend on it as a self-defense weapon.

Steve, try http://www.gunpartscorp.com
or http://www.gun-parts.com/index.html/

Either of these should have a catalog and parts with which to renovate your RG.
Looking at the exploded parts diagrams should help you trouble shoot your revolver.

Dear Steve

It will probably make a much better fishing weight than a weapon.

Do not depend on it. They are virtually worthless, and were sold to ......
Well, lets not get racist here.

Sincerely

I owned one back in 1973 when I was an impoverished grad student and didn't
have the money to buy a real pistol. The RG did two things -- utterly
removed ANY illusions I could shoot a snubby with any accuracy, and taught
me that even a point-blank range a .38 special couldn't break an
old-fashioned thick-bellied coke bottle.

Both conclusions were wrong, by the way. Both were idiocyncratic to the
d--n gun. My conclusion: keep it as an example of what a revolver should
NOT be. Then buy a Taurus, Smith and Wesson, or even a Rossi. (You can
often get good deals at pawn shops on used revolvers).

The truth is that after this amount of time, the RG is doing you a favor by
not working. If you actually could get it to fire, you might find pieces of
the frame embedded in your flesh.

I took an RG 38 apart.
It has a modular mechanism that comes out as a unit.
It was complicated to figure out and get back together.
The gun suffered and unscheduled disassembly in a load work up 3.6
grains of LONSHOT above 357 mag max load. [It was ok with 2.6 gr over,
but I can't find all the pieces now.]

Hey Don!

Re: '...Racist'

Let's call a spade a spade; don't worry about PC w/ most of us
palefaces here w/ a pair. It's OK to speak the truth, at least until
Big Brother in Homlelad Security says 'no'.

Yes, RG's were crap. But FTR, some of the Wheirauch (sp?)German
Zinc-gun Revolvers were surprisingly functional. Without seeing the
RG, Ithink it MAY have been made by the Germans for export to
inner-city mouth-breathing Yanks.

Funny how ethnicity comes into play in the gun market, though we are
not supposed to notice it. Consider your typical Cobray / Walter
Mitty play SMG buyer! "Dems nice guns!"
