# The 6.5mm Swede round has a good rep as a game getter, but I question
# your choice of rifles. The Ljungman is firmly in the realm of the
# collectors, last one I saw was in the 4 figure arena.
Really? That's fantasic news, I paid $400 or so for mine. Not that I
plan to sell any time soon but, still, the Swedes i've bought about a
dozen of seem to have been doing very well for value.
#How does the Ljungman AG42B stack up as a deer gun? Can I get a scope
#for this rifle?

#Thanks for your help.

The only thing suitable for deer hunting about this rifle is the
cartridge. It's too heavy, too long and worth way too much to
collectors to consider altering.
If you want to go deer hunting, sell / retire the AG42B and get a nice
bolt action with a scope.
The 6.5x55 is great for game - The Ljungman will do OK if you want to
use iron sights but I don't know about scoping it.
The 139 or 140 grain bullet out of a sporterized version of the bolt
action surplus Swede will be accurate, reliable, and great for
everything up to moose - the guys who say it's too small forget that
the relatively gutless 30-30 was used to kill lots and lots of game
before the hotter cartridges were developed.. Thing is - the 6.5 is a
tiny little hole and a 140 grain bullet is LONG... sectional density
counts too.
There's another tread starting up about the 6.5 in general. I was
converted to the 6.5 when I won a "military match" at my first gun
club with a surplus, un-modified 6.5 Swede by getting the smallest
group from the shoulder at 100, highest score at 100, and smallest
group at 100 - borrowed rifle, surplus ammo.
The ladder sights work well on the old military rifle - the one I
bought had a really pitted barrel, but would still shoot inside an
inch from a bench at 100.
I now use a scoped mauser swede for deer and so far none have required
a second shot.

Thanks for the advice. Ljungman's are relatively common on the used
market here in Canada and sell for less than $400. Ellwood Epps in
Orillia often has the AG42B for sale (http://www.ellwoodepps.com/
used_RIFLE_PAGE_MILITARY2.asp). He has one for sale now for $379.
Cabela's does sell a B-squared mount for the Ljungman, but the
customer reviews are not great. Ammo is easy to come by off the
shelf, but can only be gotten in 140 gr.
Being a lefty its hard to come by bolt action rifles, which is usually
why I go for semi's or pump's. I may look into a Savage left-hand bolt
instead in .308.
My friend bought one for $150 in Canada last year.
Could he bring it back on C&R license?

# Could he bring it back on C&R license?
No kidding. I'd take 10, sight-unseen, at that price.
Seriously.
With a Form 6 you can.
