Looking for this item, factory or custom, just don't want to spend as much
on grips as I did on the gun. Someone forced a set of pachmyers on mind and
they work OK but I prefer wood, and a factory fit.....
Any Suggestions?
Thanks,
John

Hogue grips. Love the look and fit.

I cannot believe the number of SAA guns that are sold with terrible, cheap
looking, black plastic grips. It is like certainty that the new owner is
going to replace those.

The Hogue grips are slightly expensive but I believe all can be had for less
than $100 and it makes your piece look like a million bucks.

Two suggestions, 1) Numrich arms has some listed www.e-gunparts.com, or 2)
contact Ruger

A quick search on Midway's site with "security six grips" returned
7(seven) pages. But you aren't going to get the fancy wood ones for
$20, new, anyway. Hogue's custom wood grips are very good and fit my
hand well, don't know about you. At the local shows, we've got the
grip lady that comes up from NM every so often, that's who I get my
grips from. That way I can check the fit, both on the gun and in my
hand. Buying revolver grips by mail is like buying shoes or boots by
mail, kind of a crap shoot for fit. They can look like a million
bucks on the gun and still fit your hand like crap. Hogue still makes
the original hard nylon grips, much cheaper than the custom wood
jobbies, but they're harder to find. Those don't stick to your
clothes like the rubber ones and still have a better hand fit than the
factory ones. "Factory fit" to the frame on some of the Rugers I've
seen hasn't been all that good... And a lot of rubber grips have
flash right at the joint where your palm hits it. Either that or they
flex enough to grab a bit of skin when the joint opens on recoil and
nip your hand.

Tip: close your eyes, pick up the gun(unloaded, natch) off the table
and hold it out at arm's length like you're going to shoot it
offhand. Open your eyes and see where the sights are. Should be just
about aligned. If too high or low, you need a different set of
stocks.
