In responses to my queryies about gaining target accuracy many
have told me to get a 22 pistol and reccommended the Ruger brand.
I understand that their lesser priced models are difficult to
field strip and clean. I am also somewhat enchanted with the claim
by Ruger that this gun is used in Government training.
Does this model suffer from the problems of the other models?
Is it worth double what they charge for the other models?

All Ruger .22 pistols are equally difficult/easy to field
strip. I think the 22/45 models may have slight variations in the
sequence, but they're pretty close. Personally, I haven't found my
Ruger to be very difficult to strip, but the job did require a hammer
(plastic or brass face to avoid marring the finish).
I have the KMK-678 (not the -G model), and I'm very happy with
it, but I wouldn't have paid $400 for it. I found it posted here in
NIB condition for $250. If I hadn't found that, I would have bought
one of the less-expensive models.

The stainless Mark II Government Target that you describe, is an excellent
target pistol. Once you know how, it is NOT difficult to fully strip or
field strip any Ruger Mark II.
This pistol may LIST for "double" over a standard 4" or 6"... but you can
buy them very reasonably if you SHOP AROUND thoroughly. Look for them at a
gunshow... new or slightly used. You should pay only a little over $300. I
have the same pistol in blue and paid only $245 for ANIB.
Add a Volquartsen drop-in trigger/hammer job and you're smokin'

#On a personal note. I have found a warm place in my heart for ruger
#22lr rifles and pistols. I especially love the KMK-678GC.
#Stainless, heavy barrel, wood grips with a thumb rest, nice sights or

I'm sitting here admiring an even better buy - just brought home my
new MK-678GC. Same gun as the KMK-678GC but in blue. It must be a
recent introduction because it's not listed in the 97 Ruger catalog.
Price was $280 retail! If this pistol shoots anywhere near as well as
I expect it to, I've just gotten the most gun-for-money I've ever
obtained on a new gun purchase.
Now if I can just get it back together after its maiden cleaning. . .
Best,
Joe
P.S. I also saw a 'GC' (slab-sided 6 7/8" bbl.) version of the 22/45
at another dealer. Didn't care for the slender grips, so didn't note
price. Looks like Ruger has introduced some new models.

I saw the KMK678GC at a gun show last month for 329. I got the mk512
bull barrel for 229. I think 329 is a fluke price, though. You
should look to pay about 375.
