I have an old Westernfield Model M175B 20 gauge bolt-action shotgun,
chambered for both 2 3/4" and 3" shells. I bought it used from a friend
about 25 years ago, so I have no idea how old it is, and I've lost any
manual that I might have received with it. I asked someone about
getting some magazines for it, and was told that Westernfield is a
store, and that I needed to find out the gun manufacturer. I've done a
search for Westernfield but haven't come up with anything. Does anyone
know who manufactured them? There is nothing anywhere on the gun other
than Westernfield, the serial number, and "Made in the U.S.A.".

Thanks. Bill Velek

Western Field was sold by Montgomery Wards for years. Your model was made by
Mossberg and is a Model 385. Western Field guns were made by Mossberg, Savage,
Stevens, Marlin, Nobel, and others.

Blue Book of Gun Values, 19th Edition lists the Western Field175 as being
made by Mossberg. The Western Field 175 is the same model (minus some
cosmetics) as the Mossberg 385K. I would assume the 175B is a more recent
variant.

The Mossberg Model 385 and its variants was made from 1960-1986. Try writing
Mossberg with the model and serial number of the shotgun.

Good luck.

I believe these were for Montgomery Wards. Possibly, manufactured by
Mossberg or stevens.

The Blue Book lists a western field model 175 as a Mossberg model 385K

If I'm not mistaken, I believe that Westernfields were much like JC
Higgins....made by the 'big guys' and sold by Wards/Penneys/Sears under
different names. I would figure that your shotgun was originally a
Savage or Marlin as I know they both made a bolt shotgun.

I would recommend that you find a "Blue Book of Gun Values" at your next
local gun show and look them up...I'm unable to find mine right now.

Handgunner

I worked in Monkey Wards sporting goods back during the 1970s. In those days,
the Western Field pumps were made by Mossberg, as were Coast to Coast and some
others. Look at the barrel--if it screws off like a Mossy, it is a Mossy. Barrels
will be interchangeable.
