I enjoy reading articles by Bart Skelton in Guns and Ammo.

Skelton evidently is ( or was) in law enforcement. Does anyone
know exactly what agency he works for? Anyone know anything
about him? (I understand his father was famous in the law
enforcement business). Any info will be appreciated.

Thanks...........

Bart Skelton is the son of Skeeter Skelton. Skeeter was a Texas deputy
sheriff in Deaf Smith county after his stint in the Army - WWII.
Skeeter later joined the Border Patrol and work several horse stations
in South Texas. The BP transferred him to Deming, NM. Skeeter was also
a writer for Shooting Times - both technical and humor. Bart was raised
in and around Deming and had access to firearms all his life. He
followed his dad's footsteps and joined the Border Patrol and went into
writing as a sideline.

Don't know all of Bart's bio, but he is the son of the late Skeeter Skelton
who was a very popular firearms author from Texas. Skeeter wrote in the
70's and 80's for G&A and occasionally other rags. Skeeter wrote from a
practical, former leo standpoint and with no-nonsense and a clear vision of
right and wrong. I'd guess Bart's doing the same.

I haven't read G&A in many years, but maybe if Skeeter's son is writing for
them I ought to start checking it out.

I stand corrected on which magazines Skeeter wrote for. But which ever they
were, his articles were worth saving.

Bart is with the Customs Service, not the Border Patrol. I have had
the pleasure of working with him. He is a very hard working agent,
very down to earth, lots of common sense. For the most part, people
at the office didn't even know he wrote for a magazine, or who his dad
was. And he was certainly not a name dropper, and didn't brag at all.
I only figured it out after being introduced to him, and seemed to
remember that Skeeter's son had started writing, and just asked "Was
your dad's name Skeeter?" He just looked at me and said "yes". It was
fun to talk with him about guns, as you can imagine. Great guy.

Thanks Bryan. I would welcome the opportunity to talk to him
about guns and life in general on the border. His articles
come across as one who is a down to earth type. Glad to hear
that.

He sounds like a really laid back guy

If I recall correctly, Bart got his LE start in the New Mexico State Patrol as
a Trooper, then took a job in INS, but I don't think as a Border Patrol agent.
I think he is a plainclothes inspector. His dad, Skeeter, worked INS as a drug
interdiction/enforcment agent in his latter years of plice service. MatQuig
