Does anyone remember the "gardener's prayer" or know where I might look for
it.

I remember it is only about two or three sentences long.

Thanks.

Sexy Bloomers
May the bunnies never nibble
on your young and tender shoots,
May your transplants settle in
and put down hardy little roots,
May your weeds come out real easy
and your lawn be fungus free,
May you never put your back out or
inhale a bumblebee,
May your roses never stab you or
your hoses spring a leak,
And may everyone come a'calling
when your garden's at its peak,
May you never grow too weary
as you toil for hours and hours,
And may you never be too busy
to stop and smell the flowers!

God grant that I may always find
A patch of fertile earth,
Where I may plant a seed or two
And hence a garden birth.
May rain fall gently from the sky
Followed by sun's bright rays,
And breezes whisper softly by
Throughout long summer days.
Grant perserverance as I weed,
Patience for each stage to keep,
Until I harvest fruit and seed,
Prepare the soil for winter's sleep
And dream of gardens yet to be.

Mother nature is wonderful to see,
The flower the plant and the tree.
It all makes me shiver,
As I have hayfever,
And its the last place that I want to be.

No, they have to start like this:

There once was a fellow from Texas
Who knew not his o's from his x's;
But he posted to Gandy
(a fellow quite dandy)
then gave up his Dodge for a Lexus.

Something like that...you get the idea?

Or, as Juan would say:

Había una vez un compañero de Tejas
que sabía no sus o de sus x;
Pero él fijó a Gandy
(compañero absolutamente excelente)
entonces dio para arriba su regate para un Lexus.

'Course, it doesn't have quite the same ring to it...

Gee, Kubwa and Gandy Dancer, that's really good, but I don't believe I can
get all that on a small garden plaque which I'm having made for my garden.

I'll even take a new Garden prayer if you can limit it to two or three
small sentences.

Thanks, Sunny

Sunny, here's one o'my all-time favorites...I know it's longer than you
wanted, but feel free to edit it down:

MY PRAYER

When the twilight is gone
And no song bird is singing
When the twilight is gone
You come into my heart
And here in my heart you will stay while I pray

My prayer is to linger with you
At the end of the day in a dream that's divine
My prayer is the rapture in blue
With the world far away and your lips close to mine
Tonight while our hearts are aglow
Oh tell me the words that I'm longing to know

My prayer and the answer you give
May they still be the same for as long as we live
That you'll always be there
At the end of my prayer

This is one I like:

The kiss of the sun for pardon
The song of the birds for mirth
One is nearer God's heart in a garden
Than anywhere else on earth

Might mention that it has an author. -Olin

"The Lord God Planted A Garden

by Dorothy Francis Gurney

The lord God planted a garden
In the first white days of the world

And he set there an angel warden
In a garment of light unfurled.

So near to the peace of Heaven,
That the hawk might rest with the wren

For there in the cool of even'
God walked with the first of men.

The kiss of the sun for pardon,
The song of the birds for mirth.

One is nearer God's heart in a garden

Than anywhere else on earth."

Here's a song they used to play on our local rqdio garden show. Not
exactly a prayer but still kinda nice. -Olin

The Garden Song
by David Mallett

"Inch by inch, row by row
Gonna make this garden grow
All it takes is a rake and a hoe
And a piece of fertile ground
Inch by inch, row by row
Someone bless these seeds I sow
Someone warm them from below
'Till the rain comes tumbling down.

Pulling weeds and pickin' stones;
Man is made of dreams and bones
Feel the need to grow my own,
'Cause the time is close at hand.
Grain for grain, sun and rain,
Find my way in nature's chain
Tune my body and my brain,
To the music from the land.

Plant your rows straight and long,
Temper them with a prayer and song.
Mother Earth will make you strong
If you give her love and care.
An old crow watching hungrily
From his perch in yonder tree.
And in my garden I'm as free
As that feathered thief up there.

Inch by inch, row by row
Gonna make this garden grow
All it takes is a rake and a hoe
And a piece of fertile ground
Inch by inch, row by row
Someone bless these seeds I sow
Someone warm them from below
'Till the rain comes tumbling down.

Isn't there a whole album of garden type songs? They play this on the
folk music show on Saturdays, and I've always meant to pick up the
album. Thanx for posting the lyrics.

To Olin: Thanks for sending the poem by Dorothy Francis Gurney. I never
knew there was more. I only knew about the last four lines.

Don't know about an album of garden somgs but I would also be
interested. The "Garden Song" was a John Denver recording. I believe
Arlo Guthrie also recorded a version of it. -Olin

What a pleasure. I've been lookling for a copy of the album 'Circle of
Seasons' by Pete Seeger, I believe, where I'd first heard this one, and it's
out of publication. Thanks much.
This increases the songs I sing to plants beyond the range of 'I hear it's
your birthday!', done by the Beatles, sung with each transplanting.

The Gardener’s Prayer
O Lord please listen to my prayer
As I sit here upon my chair
I’ve cut the hedge & mowed the lawn
And planted seeds from early morn
And now I pray You make them grow ~
Like the pictures on the packet show.
