Don't know about plant places. But banks out in Wa are tied together in some
kind of net & if you don't take care of previous problems with "Interstate
Bank" you can't open an account at "KeyBank". Doesn't make any difference
what the or whose problem it is.
The second bank told me it was some kind of guarentee organization they
belong to & the organization would not garentte the account agaginst misuse
unless prior problems where cleared. Wonderful say what

They are sister companies. I ordered some bulbs from brecks,
then wanted to order the saffron crocus. They said their sister
company "Spring Hill" had them, and placed the order for me.

I often order from Spring Hill, and have had only the best of luck.
Their roses, BTW, surpased J&P for huskiness and quality.
Spring Hill will give satisfaction, too. I ordered their 'mixed'
spiderwort collection, and they sent me more when I complained that
they all came out the same purple variety.
I am not sure what 'sister' companies may mean, but I had a phone
receptionist explain something about them using maybe the same
ordering/promotional service, or something like that.

Your tulips should do just fine! As for companions experiment! Try
different bulbs. I use some daffodils, crown imperials so I have
something blooming all the time. When they all are blooming together it
looks great!

You should get a fine show in Zone 5. In fact, here in Zone 7
(greater Washington, DC, area), we don't do tulips all that well. The
intense heat of the summers pretty much exhausts them in one year.
That is, they bloom fine in year 1 but don't make much of a show in
out years. Gardeners who do want tulip beds here (including the pros
who manage the National Park Service's public beds around the big
monuments downtown) are resigned to replanting with new bulbs
annually.
I verified this sad truth with a planting of 'Blue Parrot.' Good news
in 1994 but only 2 of 12 blooms repeated in 1995.
Daffs do great here, though....
He was also much into forcing bulbs, to sell at the Swap
Meets.
I haven't done any testing of refrigerated bulbs, myself. Just
rose seeds ... though I once sprouted lettuce seed in the
fridge when the outside temp was too high for the seeds to
sprout.
