* macjo...@cornetto.chem.washington.edu (listserv) (NOTE: spelling is
correct. This is a Mac version of the majordomo software)
* Allyn Weaks, al...@u.washington.edu (listowner)
Description
PNW-Natives is a new mailing list for the discussion of wildlife
gardening with pacific northwest native plants.
I'm defining Pacific Northwest more narrowly than some who
include everything north of San Francisco and west of the
Rockies, which is an extremely diverse set of separate ecologies.
I'm restricting the list to the more coastal areas, from Cook
Inlet, Alaska to Eugene, Oregon north to south, and from the
ridge of the Casacde and Coast ranges to the pacific ocean east
to west. This region is quite varied enough, but is unified by
the climate produced by the interactions between the ocean and
the mountains.
Topics of conversation might include: where to buy native plants;
announcements of plant sales; which native plants attract
butterflies or birds; how to recreate a particular ecological
niche such as a bog or a corner of moist forest; recommendations
of particularly good field guides or other books; how to
propagate particular plants; seed/plant exchanges; where's a good
in-city nature walk.
