I have found that I can kill weeds by spraying them with Clorox, however it
runs off some weeds and then doesn't work well. I want to mix Clorox with a
spreader-sticker but I don't want to accidentally poison myself. Any ideas
whether this combination is safe? How about Clorox with dish washing
detergent? Thank you.

Clorox with dishwasher detergent does not make a toxic combination.

Chlorine or beach by itself is poisonous enough; if you add anything
else to it, it'll get worse. It'll also poison the soil.

I'm guessing that hand picking weeds is not an option; so something
relatively safe like Kleenup, Roundup, or other similars are much
better than chlorine or bleach.

Clorox is 5% sodium hypochlorite (NaHClO3). It is a strong oxidizing agent,
which kills by chemically "burning" organic material (causing it to combine
with oxygen). Clorox is very strongly alkaline (pH 11), so it can cause caustic
burns as well as oxidizing.

When mixed with amines (such as some detergent components), Clorox can break
down chemically to form very toxic chlorine gas (Cl2). This is why you must
never clean a toilet with Clorox and Lysol at the same time... you could die
from the fumes. If you mix Clorox with a detergent, you won't know if this
will cause the reaction.

If you spray Clorox on plants, it will eventually break down into salt (NaCl)
and caustic lye (NaOH). Salting the earth is not a good thing, but the tiny
amount you use on weeds probably wouldn't cause much harm. Just be sure to
protect your hands with rubber gloves, and wash the area with plenty of water,
once the weed is dead (keep kids and animals away).

Actually, the chlorine will volatilize before it gets to ground water,
and unless your dumping a ton of it, it would be negligible. I'd be
more concerned with sewage Treatment facilities which disinfect with
hypochlorite and are not reqiuired to dechlorinate.

what will be left then??

perhaps, but the whole problem (no! 1 of the problems) with our water
masses is that EVERYONE says this & it is the cumulative amounts that
hurt! I really believe that everyone must practice IPM!

perhaps!
My point is, every little bit we (don't) do, helps!!

I heard that chlorine bleach works well as a decomposer of tree stumps when
applied directly and undiluted and left for an extended period of time. Any
experiences with this?
