Hope you all can give me some good ideas here. I'm planning a vacation
backwards. I have until April 30 to book a trip online and earn 1,000
extra points from the Preferred Guest Plan at the Sheraton. I know this
sounds like I'm grasping at straws just so that I can take a week's
vacation in the middle of the spring... actually, that's pretty close to
the truth. I thought about flying home to Wisconsin, but that seemed
ridiculous when there are so many gorgeous places, none of which I've
ever seen, that are going to be their most beautiful in May. And since
this is the first year that I'm actually landscaping my own property, I
was thinking I might turn it into a fact-finding mission about gardening
and landscaping. If I were going to choose a destination based purely on
the most stunning floral display in the country during the month of May,
where would that be? Is there a Sheraton hotel nearby? Are there any
nationally famous floral shows I should think about attending?

I love my area in May. The azaleas are in bloom, the tulips are up, and many
trees are in flower.

You might want to visit Longwood Gardens at that time.

I've never been there, but I've heard the Biltmore estate in
Asheville, NC is a sight to behold any time of the year. They
probably have a web page full of tourist information online somewhere.

As a local, I always make it a point to go during this time because WDW
really does an incredible job. Click on the workshop and demo, and the
entertainment links to see if there's any interesting things you'd like
to see in addition to "just" the flowers. <grin>

Geez, I though that enough of us here have visited Disney (courtesy of
Spike) that location would never crop up as a recommended *voluntary* visit!
;^)

Hey, Aggie. Is this some kind of a loyalty program that you're following?
What is 1000 points worth anyway? I need to book a stay in Atlanta
between May 8 and 12, and I was wondering where to find a good program
since I'm traveling so much right now.

I have a year's pass to the Biltmore House. It is well worth the money and I
love going there every season. It is fun to see the changes in the house and
in the gardens. If you ever get a chance, try to see it once at least!

I would suggest the Portland, OR area - if you go, visit the International
Rose Test Gardens. The entire area is in bloom from mid-May through
June. Lots of good restaurants, too. ; )
